Job description

Position Overview: The purpose of this position is to develop, optimize, and apply specialized coatings to protect surfaces of manufactured products; define the engineering requirements, troubleshoot application processes, and ensure compliance with Marleโ€™s quality and environmental standards as well as regulatory and customer specifications.
Essential Job Functions:
  • Develop and standardize coating processes for Marleโ€™s current (chrome, anodizing and PVD) and new processes.
  • Conduct failure analysis and implement correction actions using root cause analysis.
  • Research, select and test coating materials to improve durability.
  • Oversee installation and operation of manual and automated coating equipment.
  • Ensure processes meet environmental and safety regulations, comply with federal and local regulatory requirements and that proper personal protective equipment is available and utilized by operators.
  • Train and develop operators to perform coating processes within specification and safely.
  • Determine whether product conforms to product specifications.
  • Promote continuous improvement of process under his/her supervision.
  • Follow Marleโ€™s safety and environmental procedures.
  • Follow written and verbal directions from manager and/or company officers.
  • Perform non-routine tasks assigned by manager and/or company officers.
Qualification Requirements:
  • College degree in Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, or Chemistry with 2+ years of experience in medical or industrial manufacturing environment; college graduate under direct supervision of the current engineer (โ€œin trainingโ€) or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Physical Demands
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit and/or stand for long periods at the operatorโ€™s station and walk from and to various operatorsโ€™ stations. The employee is frequently required to use hand, finger or feel, and reach with hands and arms. The employee is required to hold small and large parts with fingers while measuring the part with but not limited to caliper, micrometer, gage pins, thread plug and ring gages, depth gage and height gage. The duties require continuous mental or visual attention and ability to handle short and long cycle repetitive work or diversified operations requiring constant alertness. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 20 pounds as well as occasionally lift and move up to 50 pounds.
Work Environment
While performing the duties of this job, the employee occasionally works with and/or near moving mechanical parts, fumes and air-borne particles. A respirator is not required for normal duties but may be required for some special situations. The noise level in the work environment is typically noisy. Hearing protection is not required for normal duties but may be required for some special situations.
