Job description

Amentum is seeking a Boiler Plant Operator to join our team in Hawthorne, Nevada to support the Hawthorne Army Depot. The Boiler Plant Operator will ensure the site's boiler-heating systems are maintained and operating within industrial standards. Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret US Government Clearance. Note: US Citizenship is required to obtain a Secret Clearance. Typical Responsibilities: * Perform routine maintenance on Industrial Boiler type systems in a facility as part of their job. Maintenance will include replacing defective valves, filters, or steam gauges on a assigned boiler heating system. * Maintain operating logs and records to track daily system performance and other daily observations of the boiler system mechanical operation, to include recording of visual inspections with date and time, and any adverse conditions of the plant. * Maintain proper water temperature, steam pressure, and all equipment located in a gas, oil, coal fired high pressure steam or high temperature water boiler plant. Adhere to operating instructions, efficiency of work methods, procedural and safety regulations. * Operate all equipment to produce and control the amount of steam or high temperature water necessary to meet demands. Periodically perform visual inspection of equipment to ensure proper operation. * Maintain constant observation of flow meters and charts to determine level of steam production, ability to meet demands, fuel consumption, and evaporation levels. Determine the need for adjusting fires, using pressure reducing valves, starting and stopping water pumps, etc. Adjust firing controls for correct air fuel mixture, fuel feeds, and drafts for best combustion efficiency. * Operate auxiliary equipment such as automatic coal and ash handling systems, water heaters, and pumps, forced and induced draft fans, and de-aerating equipment. Assist boilermakers in the maintenance of boilers, auxiliary equipment, and machines. Follow Safety Data Sheet guidelines for handling, storage, and disposal of Hazardous Materials. * Keeping safety at the forefront, boiler operators will watch the system during operation and attend to any additional problems. * Perform all work safely and with the utmost concern for the safety of self and other employees. * Perform all work in compliance with environmental permits and regulations. * May be required to work overtime or varying hours to include shift work. * Be at work when scheduled and maintain a good attendance record. * Work near and or in an ammunition and explosives demilitarization facility. * Perform other duties of the same or lower level of difficulty as assigned. * May be assigned occasional duties of a higher level of difficulty than those listed above. Minimum Qualifications: * Must be 18 years of age or older. * Must have a high school diploma/equivalent. * 2-4 years' experience working high pressure vessels and/or heating type systems or other industrial boiler type units. * Have a thorough understanding of equipment operation and maintenance requirements. * Must be able to perform skilled to semi-skilled tasks including but not limited to operating and maintaining equipment, tools, vehicle and material handling equipment. * Data logging, record keeping, laboratory, sampling, testing and filing skills are preferred. * Must be computer literate in common software applications and able to operate general office equipment. * Must be willing to work overtime, varying hours and/or rotating shifts. * Be detail oriented and able to exercise good judgment in problem solving. * Must be able to work in a constant state of alertness in a safe manner. Perform safety sensitive duties. * Must be able to obtain/maintain all certifications as required by Amentum's Master Training Plan. * Must maintain fitness-for-duty standards to perform the essential functions of the position, to include any HWAD drill, contingency and/or emergency requirement. * Must also be able to obtain a clearance through the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms and be favorably vetted through the NCIC III System. * Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret US Government Clearance. Note: US Citizenship is required to obtain a Secret Clearance. SAFETY SENSITIVE This position is designated as a safety sensitive position and is subject to the requirements of the HWAD Medical Surveillance Plan and Matrix and the HWAD A&D Program. As a condition of employment, candidates and incumbents must favorably complete a personnel security investigation, drug testing, medical exam and respiratory screening, and must meet and maintain personnel suitability and reliability requirements established by 29 CFR and Army Regulations: AR 190-11, AR 190-13 and DOD Contractors Safety Manual 4145.26.
