BUS MECHANICS LEVELS A, B & C (Diesel Mechanics With Experience Only)
PAY: A Level Range: $30.00 - $45.00, pending skill level upon evaluation.
B Level Range: $24.00 - $36.00, pending skill level upon evaluation.
C Level Range: $20.00 - $30.00, pending skill level upon evaluation.
For the right candidates, based on review and application, further education may be provided while maintaining consistent income.

SHIFTS: Morning or afternoon/evening. To be determined after interview. Must have availability to work nights, weekends, and some holidays - pending schedule.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
Are you interested in a fast paced, real-time environment, with skilled professionals, and the ability to further your mechanical education and career? Are you interested in learning about the future of buses? Then, we're interested in you.
In this role, under supervision of the Shop Foreman and Manager, you will be performing a variety of routine and preventative large vehicle repair and maintenance tasks including trouble shooting, inspection, and repair of company owned buses and their operating systems.
TYPICAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
In addition to standard Bus Mechanic responsibilities:
- Examines the vehicle and discusses with supervisor or other mechanics the nature and extent of the damage or malfunction.
- Plans work procedure, using charts, technical manuals, and computer diagnosis experience.
- Raises vehicle, using hydraulic jack or hoist, to gain access to mechanical units or parts attached to underside of vehicle.
- Removes units, such as diesel engines, transmission, or differential, using wrenches and hoist.
- Disassembles units and inspects parts for wear, using micrometers, calipers, and thickness gauges.
- Replaces, generators/alternators, starters, and pumps.
- Determines condition of parts such as brake drums and rotors using micrometers.
- Relines and adjusts brakes, aligns front end, repairs, or replaces shock absorbers.
- Inspects, tests, repairs and recharges air conditioning and heating systems.
- Inspects, tests, repairs, or replaces hydraulic system components.
- May be required to perform other related duties as requested.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
Education: Minimum High School graduate or equivalent preferred. Formal diesel and/or heavy-duty vehicle training preferred.
Experience: Experience in the field of Automotive, Bus, Truck or diesel engine repair preferred.
Skilled in: Inspecting, diagnosing, testing, and repairing buses or other vehicles and their systems. Skill at following both verbal and written instructions.
Knowledge of: Use and care of hand tools, equipment, and machinery, safe work practices.
Licenses: Valid Florida driver's license with a good driving record for test driving motor coaches on company property. Must be over age 18.
Special Requirements: Must have own hand tools or be willing to acquire hand tools. Must be able to work holidays, weekends and evenings.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
• Must be able to obtain access of any component on the vehicle with the vehicle in any position.
• Must be able to use tools or work aids to work, move, guide or place objects or materials onto or into vehicle to accomplish repair tasks. Also, must be able to exercise considerable judgment in the selection and adjustment of appropriate tools, objects or materials to accomplish these tasks.
• Must be able to sustain a work load consisting of exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally (occurring up to 1/3 of the time), and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently (occurring 1/3 to 2/3 of the time), and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly (occurring 2/3 or more of the time) to move objects.
• Must be able to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagrammatic or schedule form.
• Must be able to understand and utilize practical applications of fractions, percentages, decimals, ratios and proportions.
• Must be able to read and comprehend safety rules, instructions in the use of shop tools and equipment, repair manuals, and methods and procedures in mechanical drawing and layout work.
• Must be able to calibrate, monitor, and utilize test equipment and machines, and inspect various components of the vehicle.
• Must be able to communicate in clear fluent English with drivers, other mechanics, parts counterpersons, vendors, co-workers and other persons.
