Job Description:

The J&J IM Athens Co-op is responsible for providing technical support to their assigned function and processes. These responsibilities include performing analysis to measure process performance; implementing improvements in process cycle time, yield, and quality to improve operational efficiency; supporting introduction and validation of new and existing products; and providing guidance to new equipment design, installation and qualification. These tasks are usually performed under the supervision and mentorship of process engineers, manufacturing process specialists or management.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Acquire skills to provide day-to-day support for assigned processes.
  • Maintain, update and author necessary production, safety and regulatory documentation such as operating instructions, batch production records, criticality analysis, piping and instrumentation diagrams, key and controlled parameter documents, deviations, and corrective action plans.
  • Participate in problem solving efforts by analysis and correction of both process and equipment problems to maintain or improve existing site operations.
  • Implement, under supervision, process surveillance programs focusing on issues such as process control, yields, cycle times, quality, and change over. Prepare written interpretations of plant operating data and implement corrective action.
  • Support coordination of small engineering projects.
  • Prepare reports to inform leadership of work in progress with expected completion dates in lieu of anticipated timeline.
  • Conduct or participate in development projects including laboratory, pilot plant or plant scale investigations to provide improved procedures, equipment or processes for existing products.
  • Document and execute process and cleaning validation of new and existing products. Support and facilitate the introduction of new processes by coordinating and executing the preparation activities for process start-ups and supply technical coverage.
  • Assist in new and existing process and equipment design.
  • Execute cost reduction and efficiency improvement projects using Process or Design Excellence techniques. Utilizes appropriate risk management tools such as FMEA, HAZOP, LOPA, and business risk evaluations.
  • Maintain knowledge of cGMPs, process safety practices, and environmental standards.
  • Supports investigations and root-cause analyses for non-conformances, documenting findings and corrections/corrective actions in the quality management system.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the role of a Synthesis Specialist or System (equipment) Owner.
  • Ensure the delivery of high quality and accurate work in a timely manner to meet the production schedule.
  • Participate in plant safety programs such as Process Hazard Analyses (PHA) of new and existing processes to maintain and/or improve operations safety.
  • Execute duties in compliance with all state and federal regulations and guidelines, including FDA, EPA, OSHA and DEA. Adhere to all company and site policies and procedures and the intent of our Credo.
  • Successfully complete regulatory and job training requirements.
  • Participate in other projects or assignments as requested by management.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Permanently authorized to work in the U.S.
  • Candidate must be actively enrolled in an accredited University for the duration of a co-op
  • Currently pursuing a degree in Chemical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
  • Enrolled in a Bachelor's, Master's, or MBA program.
  • Minimum GPA of 2.8 is required.
  • Completion of Undergraduate Freshmen year at accredited University is required.
  • Ability to demonstrate strong analytical and quantitative skills is required.
  • Excellent communication, presentation skills and leadership skills are preferred.
  • Ability to balance multiple projects and initiatives while executing results.
  • Must be a self-starter who works independently while contributing to the team goals.
  • Proven leadership/participation with campus programs and/or community service activities is desired.

  • Demonstrate proven track record to write effectively in order to communicate work prepared, explain conclusions and recommendations.

  • Apply mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory, and factor analysis.

  • Interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Define problems, collect data or information, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.

Physical demands

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear; stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms.
  • Must be capable of moving around the plant to perform on-site observations.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
