Job description

Position Summary

The CNC Set-Up & Operator is responsible for preparing, setting up, and operating CNC machines to produce precision aerospace and defense components in accordance with engineering specifications, quality standards, and production schedules. This role requires high attention to detail, strong mechanical aptitude, and a commitment to safety and continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities

Machine Setup & Operation

  • Set up CNC lathes, mills, and/or multi-axis machining centers according to setup sheets, blueprints, and work instructions.

  • Install and adjust tooling, fixtures, and workholding devices for each job.

  • Load programs into machine controls and verify correct operation.

  • Perform first-piece inspections and make offset adjustments as needed to achieve specifications.

Production & Quality

  • Operate CNC machines to produce parts to print, maintaining dimensional accuracy and surface finish.

  • Use precision measuring instruments (micrometers, calipers, height gauges, bore gauges, etc.) to verify part quality.

  • Monitor machine operation to detect malfunctions or out-of-tolerance conditions, taking corrective action promptly.

  • Complete all required documentation, including inspection reports, job travelers, and production logs.

Maintenance & Safety

  • Perform basic machine maintenance, cleaning, and lubrication.

  • Follow all safety protocols, including proper use of PPE and safe handling of materials and tools.

  • Maintain an organized, clean, and safe work area in accordance with 5S principles.

Collaboration & Continuous Improvement

  • Work closely with engineering, quality, and production teams to resolve issues and optimize processes.

  • Suggest improvements to reduce setup time, increase throughput, and improve product quality.

  • Participate in training and cross-training to expand machining capabilities.
