Job description

Launch your machining career with Howmet Aerospace — Winsted, CT

Picture your first few months on our production floor. You arrive to a clean, organized cell, check the hour x hour board, and walk your machine. Under the guidance of seasoned mentors, you learn the rhythm of a CNC workstation — from safe set-ups and wheel changes to in-process inspections that keep quality tight. You capture every detail in production and tooling calibration records, then close the day by resetting the area to 6S standards.

What you'll learn and do
  • Set up and operate at least one CNC process (rotary, surface grinder, etc.) while meeting safety and production expectations.
  • Complete wheel changes and standard set-ups within target times.
  • Perform and document in-process inspections; maintain quality, utilization, and schedule records.
  • Keep visual controls current, including hour-by-hour charts.
  • Support 6S housekeeping, clean-up shift routines, and continuous improvement activities.
  • Follow policies in the Employee Handbook and comply with all Quality and EH&S programs.
  • Work toward and maintain certified status; maintain reliable attendance; take on other duties as assigned.
Pay, shifts, and perks
  • Starting pay from $21.00/hour; higher rates available based on skills.
  • Shift differentials: +$2.00/hour for 2nd shift; +$3.00/hour for 3rd shift.
  • Train on 1st shift for several months if needed.
  • $3,000 sign-on bonus for external hires.

About you
  • Education: High school diploma or GED.

  • Familiarity with computer scanning devices and adjustable measuring instruments.
  • A knack for checking reports, forms, and records and interpreting basic technical information.
  • Capacity to plan work, choose the sequence of set-ups and operations, and follow prescribed methods.
  • Experience: 1–2 years of machine operation preferred.
