Cnc Coder information

What is the difference between Cnc Coder vs Cnc Programmer?

AspectCnc CoderCnc Programmer
CredentialsTypically requires technical training or certification in CNC machiningRequires similar certifications, often with additional programming courses
Work EnvironmentWorks mainly on creating and editing CNC code, often under supervisionInvolves more complex programming, testing, and optimizing CNC programs
Employer & Industry UsageCommon in manufacturing, machine shops, and production facilitiesUsed in similar settings, often with more responsibility for program development

The main difference between a Cnc Coder and a Cnc Programmer lies in their scope of work. Cnc Coders primarily focus on writing and editing CNC code, while Cnc Programmers handle more complex programming tasks, including testing and optimizing programs for efficiency and accuracy. Both roles require technical skills and certifications, but Programmers typically have a broader set of responsibilities.

Are CNC coders in demand?

CNC coders are in demand due to the ongoing need for precision manufacturing and automation in industries such as aerospace, automotive, and medical devices. Skilled CNC programmers who can operate CAD/CAM software and set up machines are particularly sought after, especially as manufacturing companies seek to improve efficiency and reduce errors.

Do CNC coders make good money?

CNC coders typically earn competitive wages that vary based on experience, location, and industry. Skilled CNC programmers with certifications and proficiency in CAD/CAM software can earn higher salaries, especially in manufacturing environments with complex machinery. Overall, CNC coding can provide a solid income for those with technical skills and experience.

Why join Metalcraft Precision Machining?

Metalcraft Precision Machining is a family-owned precision machine shop that has served customers throughout the Michiana region since 1997. The company supports customers across aerospace, defense, automotive, medical, agriculture, marine, heavy machinery, automation, and other industries.

This is a hands-on role for an experienced CNC Mill Machinist who can set up and operate Haas vertical mills with limited supervision. You’ll produce both one-off and production parts while working from engineering drawings, CNC programs, and customer specifications.

Metalcraft continues to invest in modern machining and inspection technology, including approximately 10 Haas CNC mills, 10 Haas CNC lathes, Mitsubishi wire EDM equipment, and a Hexagon Global CMM. You’ll join a well-equipped shop where machining knowledge, problem-solving, and quality workmanship matter.

⚙️ What you’ll be doing

  • Set up and operate Haas CNC vertical mills
  • Perform 4-axis machining operations
  • Machine one-off and production parts to print
  • Select tooling and establish work offsets
  • Set up fixtures and verify workholding
  • Read and understand G-code and M-code
  • Load materials and make machine or program adjustments
  • Monitor machining operations and troubleshoot problems
  • Inspect completed parts using precision measuring equipment
  • Document inspection results and verify conformance to specifications
  • Work with supervisors, programmers, and quality personnel to improve machining processes
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area

️ Machines, controls & software

  • Haas CNC vertical mills
  • 4-axis vertical milling
  • Haas CNC controls
