Job description

JOB SUMMARY
The Maintenance Technician is responsible for troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining CNC machinery and related production equipment in a manufacturing environment. This role supports machine uptime, safety, and production efficiency by diagnosing and repairing mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic issues on CNC mills, lathes, machining centers, and related equipment. Experience with Mazak CNC machinery is strongly preferred.
Shift: Monday - Friday, 3:30-Midnight
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Troubleshoot, repair, and maintain CNC machinery, including CNC mills, lathes, machining centers, and Mazak equipment.
  • Diagnose mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic issues using machine alarms, schematics, manuals, test equipment, and hands-on troubleshooting.
  • Observe CNC machines in operation to identify abnormal sounds, vibration, overheating, alignment issues, tool changer problems, axis movement issues, or other equipment concerns.
  • Dismantle machinery as needed to access, repair, or replace defective parts and components.
  • Repair and replace motors, drives, bearings, belts, pumps, valves, sensors, switches, way covers, ball screws, spindles, tool changers, and other machine components.
  • Perform preventive maintenance on CNC machinery, including lubrication, cleaning, inspections, adjustments, filter changes, and documentation.
  • Test repaired equipment to confirm safe and efficient operation before returning machines to production.
  • Respond to machine breakdowns and make emergency repairs to reduce downtime and production delays.
  • Read and interpret electrical schematics, mechanical drawings, hydraulic diagrams, pneumatic diagrams, and CNC machine manuals.
  • Use hand tools, power tools, precision measuring tools, and diagnostic equipment to complete repairs.
  • Set up and operate basic shop equipment such as drill presses, grinders, lathes, and other tools to repair or fabricate parts as needed.
  • Initiate parts requests or purchase requisitions for machine repairs and preventive maintenance needs.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records, including work orders, parts used, repairs completed, and follow-up actions.
  • Follow all safety procedures, including lockout/tagout, electrical safety, machine guarding, stored energy procedures, and PPE requirements.
  • Exercise caution when troubleshooting or repairing equipment involving high voltage, moving parts, hydraulic pressure, pneumatic pressure, or stored energy.
  • Work independently with minimal supervision while prioritizing safety, quality, and machine uptime.
  • Partner with production, machining, engineering, and maintenance team members to identify recurring equipment issues and recommend corrective actions.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
  • Strong mechanical troubleshooting and repair skills.
  • Working knowledge of CNC machinery, including mills, lathes, and machining centers.
  • Ability to troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems.
  • Ability to read and understand electrical schematics, mechanical drawings, machine manuals, hydraulic diagrams, and pneumatic diagrams.
  • Ability to use hand tools, power tools, meters, diagnostic equipment, and precision measuring tools.
  • Strong math skills, mechanical aptitude, and problem-solving ability.
  • Ability to work safely in a manufacturing environment.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Technical school, trade certification, apprenticeship, or equivalent industrial maintenance experience preferred.
  • Minimum of 4 years of industrial maintenance experience preferred, ideally supporting CNC machinery.
  • Experience maintaining and troubleshooting Mazak CNC machinery strongly preferred.
  • Experience with CNC mills, lathes, machining centers, motors, drives, pumps, pneumatics, hydraulics, electrical controls, and machine components preferred.
  • Experience with Mazatrol, Fanuc, Siemens, or similar CNC control systems preferred.

PREFERRED SKILLS
  • Mazak CNC machinery troubleshooting and repair experience.
  • CNC machine tool maintenance experience.
  • Experience repairing tool changers, spindles, ball screws, axis drives, way covers, coolant systems, pumps, and lubrication systems.
  • Ability to troubleshoot CNC alarms and machine faults.
  • Experience supporting machining, metalworking, or heavy manufacturing operations.
  • Ability to identify root causes of recurring equipment issues and recommend long-term repairs or improvements.
