Position: Construction Lab Technician

Compensation: $18–$23/hour (DOE)
Location: Denver, Colorado
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Schedule: Full-time; 40 hrs/week (schedule may vary)


What You'll Be Doing
  • Receive, log, and prepare construction material samples, including soils, aggregates, and concrete

  • Perform standardized laboratory tests such as:

    • Moisture Content

    • Sieve and Gradation Analysis

    • Atterberg Limits

    • Proctor Compaction

    • Compressive Strength (Concrete)

  • Record accurate data and report findings to the Laboratory Manager

  • Maintain laboratory equipment, tools, and workspaces according to safety, quality, and accreditation standards

  • Assist with QA/QC documentation and basic report preparation

  • Follow established procedures and support team success


What You Have
  • High school diploma or equivalent

  • Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record

  • Ability to lift up to 60 lbs and perform physical tasks safely

  • Strong work ethic, attention to detail, and commitment to quality

  • Basic computer skills (Word, Excel, Outlook)

  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment


Certifications & Requirements – Colorado Focus

Required (or achievable soon after hire):

  • ACI Concrete Field Testing Technician – Grade I or ACI Concrete Laboratory Testing Technician – Grade I (recognized certifications for concrete testing)

  • WAQTC or CDOT materials technician qualifications for soil/aggregate testing or equivalent (Colorado recognizes WAQTC standards for technician qualification on transportation projects)

Preferred:

  • ACI Aggregate Testing Technician – Level I or NICET/ACI certifications relevant to materials testing

  • WAQTC Embankment & Base and In-Place Density certification modules

  • Radiation Safety and Nuclear Gauge safety certification (for density/moisture testing)


What Will Make You Stand Out
  • Prior hands-on experience in a construction materials testing laboratory

  • Familiarity with ASTM, AASHTO, or CDOT test methods

  • Coursework in civil engineering, construction management, geology, or related field

  • Strong communication and organizational skills


Work Environment
  • Laboratory-based role with occasional travel to local project sites

  • Safety-driven environment governed by internal quality standards and state transportation project requirements
