Thank you for your interest in teaching with Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools! This posting is for candidates interested in entering the teaching profession on an alternative license during 2026-2027 or 2027-2028 academic year. If offered a position with the district for 2026-2027, our licensure team can share information on the Permit to Teach or Emergency License and later we can work with you to convert this to a Residency License. This posting is also for candidates interested in the CMS Teaching Residency program for the 2027-2028 Cohort.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree (24 semester hours of relevant coursework)
  • 2.7 GPA (this can be calculated using undergraduate coursework or post graduate coursework)
  • Ability to produce an official, degree dated transcript from a regionally accredited university (you will need to upload official degree-dated transcripts from every college you have attended, including transfer credits, community college, and post baccalaureate coursework)
  • Does not hold an active or expired NC or out of state teaching license (former Lateral Entry license candidates are eligible to apply)

Summary:
Teachers provide support to the instructional process by serving as the classroom leader with specific responsibility for supervising students within the classroom and other assigned areas. The person in this position develops lesson plans and delivers group and individual student instruction within established curriculum guidelines; collaborates with other teachers, other professional staff, and administrators in addressing instructional and/or classroom issues. This person also responds to a wide range of inquiries from students' parents or guardians regarding instructional program and student progress.
Essential Duties:
  • Provides all students the best education available anywhere, preparing every child to lead a rich and productive life in the 21st century.
  • Creates a culture of effectiveness, by setting high standards and expectations for all students.
  • Teaches courses assigned by their principal/supervisor which are aligned to their licensure area; including but not limited to combined grade classes, specialized subject such as math, science or literacy.
  • Prepares course objectives and outlines for course of study following curriculum guidelines or requirements of the state and the school
  • Guides the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and in accordance with goals established by the CMS Strategic plan.
