Mayo Clinic is seeking an IT Cloud Engineer to help build, operate, and support enterprise cloud platforms that enable secure, scalable, and automated workloads across public cloud and on-prem environments. This role focuses on implementation, operational support, and automation, working under established architectural standards and patterns.
Cloud Engineers partner with senior engineers and architects to deliver reliable cloud and container platform services for application and data teams.
The Information Technology Cloud Engineer works to ensure that enterprise cloud solutions are designed, delivered, and supported. May develop internal and external compatibility of the system and subsystems. Develops moderately complex scripts using a tool or combination of tools to automate a task or a series of tasks. Develops and complies with SLAs or OLAs. Documents new or modified solutions, installation instructions, and other system-related information. Writes configuration for cloud platforms leveraging appropriate tools. Collaborates with developers and is responsible for the "Ops" part of DevOps. Develops and maintains tools and frameworks that other teams use to smoothly develop their applications. May use technology to implement automation and orchestration. Develops, builds, or implements cloud solutions based on business and technology considerations to satisfy customer needs. Works to integrate cloud solutions with existing enterprise tools and systems. Ensures compliance of cloud solutions to architectural standards. Performs evaluations of enterprise cloud technology standards, tools, products, and solutions to identify opportunities for improvement. Works with information security to ensure Cloud solutions support maintenance of a secure technology environment. Assists with planning and validating the installation, configuration, and maintenance of Cloud solutions. Supports compliance of role-based access control (RBAC), cost containment and cloud provider account management. Assists in developing time and cost estimates for cloud solutions. May develop, review, and modify Cloud systems specifications, input/output processes and working parameters for hardware/software compatibility. Participates in evaluation of technical requirements to determine the impact of Cloud technologies on the infrastructure including equipment redundancy and capacity requirements. Supports and maintains the physical design for cloud-based solutions for infrastructure and platforms.
Key Responsibilities
  • Implement and support cloud and container platform capabilities for cloud-native and hybrid workloads.
  • Deploy and operate Kubernetes-based platforms following established standards and best practices.
  • Assist with migrations from on-prem systems to cloud and container-based architectures.
  • Develop and maintain infrastructure-as-code (IaC) and automation with guidance from senior engineers.
  • Monitor, troubleshoot, and resolve cloud and platform issues in production environments.
  • Follow security, compliance, and operational requirements, including HIPAA-aligned controls.
  • Contribute to documentation, runbooks, and operational procedures.
  • Collaborate with application, security, and operations teams to support platform adoption.

Qualifications
Bachelor's degree with 3 years' experience with 1 year of demonstrated leadership experience, or Associate's degree with 5 years' experience with 1 years demonstrated leadership experience, or HS/GED with 7 years of experience in a large, complex organization like Mayo Clinic may be considered in lieu of the degree.Experience deploying and operating on a public cloud framework. Ability to articulate new ideas and concepts to technical and non-technical audiences. Ability to build collaborative working relationships with various internal and external stakeholders. Strong analytical ability and data-driven mindset. Ability to rapidly acquire new knowledge and skills. Familiarity with service design and pricing in the context of cloud-based solutions. Experience with cloud deployment, technical and security architecture, database architecture, virtualization, software design, software development, IP networking, Linux, Agile development, SCRUM, application lifecycle management, .NET, programming languages, technical solution architecture, SOA, Windows Azure, Amazon AWS. Certification in cloud engineering is required within 12-24 months.
Strongly Preferred
  • Experience in cloud, systems, or infrastructure engineering roles.
  • Foundational experience with Kubernetes or container technologies.
  • Exposure to public cloud platforms (Azure and/or Google Cloud preferred).
  • Working knowledge of Linux systems, networking fundamentals, and secure configurations.
  • Experience or familiarity with automation or IaC tools (e.g., Terraform, scripting).
  • Ability to follow defined standards and operate in a regulated enterprise environment.

Preferred
  • Experience supporting hybrid cloud environments.
  • Familiarity with container operations, monitoring, and logging tools.
  • Exposure to healthcare or other regulated environments.
  • Entry-level cloud certifications (Azure or Google Cloud).
  • Strong documentation and collaboration skills.
