Job description

The Cloud CMDB Steward is responsible for the operational administration, governance, and continuous improvement of cloud-related Configuration Management Database (CMDB) classes within ServiceNow. Working under the direction of the Cloud CMDB Class Manager, this role ensures cloud resources are accurately represented, appropriately governed, and aligned with Configuration Management, Incident Management, Change Management, Event Management, Vulnerability Management, and FinOps requirements.

This individual serves as the primary coordinator between Cloud Services, ServiceNow, Asset Management, Vulnerability Management, and other operational teams to maintain CMDB health, data quality, ownership attribution, and service relationships across cloud environments.

Primary Responsibilities

CMDB Governance & Stewardship

  • Support the Cloud CMDB Class Manager in administration of cloud-related CMDB classes.
  • Maintain documentation, standards, procedures, and governance artifacts for cloud configuration items.
  • Participate in CMDB governance reviews, audits, and remediation activities.
  • Help ensure compliance with Configuration Management policies, standards, and control requirements.
  • Coordinate annual reviews of cloud class requirements, ownership models, and governance documentation.
     

CMDB Data Quality & Health

  • Monitor cloud CI data quality, completeness, and compliance metrics.
  • Investigate and remediate CMDB health issues including missing attributes, relationships, ownership assignments, and duplicate records.
  • Perform routine audits of cloud CI records and coordinate remediation activities with engineering teams.
  • Develop reports and dashboards measuring CMDB health and operational KPIs.
     

Cloud Discovery & Integration Administration

  • Support onboarding of new cloud resource classes into ServiceNow CMDB.
  • Validate Service Graph Connector, Discovery, and integration outputs.
  • Coordinate testing and implementation of new discovery patterns and cloud CI classes.
  • Investigate discovery failures, synchronization issues, and data integrity concerns.
     

Ownership & Service Mapping

  • Maintain ownership attribution for cloud resources and ensure alignment to Technical Service Offerings (TSOs), support groups, and operational teams.
  • Validate relationships between cloud resources, services, applications, and operational support structures.
  • Partner with FinOps, Cloud Operations, Azure, and GCP teams to ensure resource ownership remains accurate and current.
  • Assist with service mapping and relationship modeling activities.
     

Operational Process Enablement

Ensure cloud CI classes support:

  • Incident Management
  • Change Management
  • Event Management
  • Vulnerability Management
  • Asset Management
  • FinOps and cost ownership processes
     

Stakeholder Coordination

  • Serve as a liaison between Cloud Services, ServiceNow teams, Asset Management, OIS, Security, FinOps, and infrastructure teams.
  • Coordinate class onboarding activities and remediation efforts.
  • Facilitate working sessions to define cloud class requirements, relationships, ownership models, and reporting needs.
  • Track action items and execution of CMDB-related initiatives.

Bachelor's degree with 0-2 years' experience in Cloud engineering / technology, or Associate's degree with 1-3 years' experience, or HS/GED with 3-5 years of experience may be considered in lieu of the degree. Certification in cloud engineering is required within 12-24 months.

  • Understanding of public cloud platforms (Azure and/or GCP preferred).
  • Knowledge of ITIL concepts and Configuration Management principles.
  • Strong analytical and data management skills.
  • Experience working with operational IT processes.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities across multiple stakeholder groups.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

    Preferred

  • ServiceNow experience.
  • Experience with CMDB, Asset Management, or Service Mapping.
  • Experience with cloud governance or cloud operations.
  • Experience working with discovery tools or cloud inventory platforms.
  • Familiarity with Common Service Data Model (CSDM) concepts.
