What is a cloud compliance?

A Cloud Compliance job focuses on ensuring that an organization's cloud infrastructure adheres to legal, regulatory, and industry standards. Professionals in this role assess cloud security risks, implement policies, and work with teams to maintain compliance with frameworks like GDPR, HIPAA, or ISO 27001. They also conduct audits, monitor compliance, and help mitigate potential risks related to cloud usage. This role is crucial for protecting sensitive data, avoiding legal penalties, and maintaining trust with customers.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in cloud compliance, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Cloud Compliance professional, you need strong knowledge of cloud computing platforms, regulatory standards (like GDPR, HIPAA, or SOC 2), and risk management, often supported by a relevant bachelor’s degree and industry certifications such as AWS Certified Security–Specialty or Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA). Familiarity with cloud security tools, compliance frameworks, auditing software, and governance solutions is essential. Exceptional attention to detail, analytical thinking, and clear communication skills help you interpret regulations and collaborate with cross-functional teams. These competencies are crucial for ensuring an organization’s cloud operations adhere to legal requirements and industry best practices, minimizing risks and protecting sensitive data.

What are some common challenges faced by cloud compliance professionals, and how are they addressed?

Cloud Compliance professionals often encounter challenges such as keeping pace with evolving regulatory requirements, aligning cloud infrastructure with multiple compliance frameworks, and managing data across different regions or providers. Addressing these issues typically involves continuous education, close collaboration with IT and legal teams, and leveraging automated compliance and monitoring tools. Many organizations also encourage regular training and certification updates to stay current with industry changes. Proactive communication and robust documentation help ensure that all stakeholders understand compliance obligations and responsibilities. By staying adaptable and diligent, Cloud Compliance specialists help organizations reduce risk and maintain trust with customers and regulatory bodies.

Is compliance a stressful job?

A compliance role in cloud environments can be stressful due to the need to ensure adherence to complex regulations, manage security risks, and meet strict deadlines. It often requires attention to detail, certifications like CISSP or CISA, and the ability to handle high-pressure situations. However, workload and stress levels vary depending on the organization and specific responsibilities.

Job description

A globally recognized financial advisory and asset management organization is seeking a Senior Cloud Security Engineer to help advance the security, compliance, and governance capabilities of its cloud environment. The firm operates across international markets and supports a diverse portfolio of business functions that depend on secure, scalable, and compliant technology platforms. As cloud technologies continue to play a larger role across the enterprise, the security team is focused on building automated controls that strengthen security while reducing operational burden.
As a Senior Cloud Security Engineer, you will be responsible for developing technical solutions that continuously assess, validate, and enforce security controls across cloud infrastructure. Unlike traditional cloud security roles focused on infrastructure operations, threat detection, application security, IAM, cloud migrations, resilience, or vendor assessments, this role centers on security control effectiveness and automated compliance management.
You will partner with cloud engineering, cybersecurity, audit, risk management, and infrastructure teams to ensure cloud environments consistently meet organizational security standards and regulatory requirements. The successful candidate will design automated validation frameworks, improve cloud compliance monitoring, and build scalable tooling that provides real-time visibility into control effectiveness across complex technology environments.
This role is ideal for an engineer who enjoys developing solutions that transform manual security processes into automated, measurable, and repeatable controls. You'll have the opportunity to influence enterprise-wide security practices while remaining hands-on with engineering and automation initiatives.
Required Skills & Experience
  • Strong experience securing AWS and/or Azure cloud environments
  • Experience implementing cloud security controls and compliance frameworks
  • Knowledge of cloud governance and configuration management principles
  • Experience with security automation and policy enforcement tools
  • Familiarity with Infrastructure as Code technologies such as Terraform
  • Understanding of cloud logging, monitoring, and reporting platforms
  • Experience developing scripts using Python, PowerShell, or Bash
  • Knowledge of regulatory and security frameworks such as NIST, CIS, SOC 2, or ISO 27001
  • Experience with vulnerability management and cloud security assessments
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

Desired Skills & Experience
  • 8+ years of cloud security, cybersecurity, or security engineering experience
  • Experience supporting financial services or regulated environments
  • Experience with cloud compliance automation platforms
  • Familiarity with cloud-native governance and security services
  • Knowledge of risk management and audit processes
  • Experience developing dashboards and security metrics
  • CISSP, CCSP, AWS Security Specialty, CISA, or equivalent certifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Cybersecurity, Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field

What You Will Be Doing
Daily Responsibilities
  • 100% Hands On
  • Develop automated controls that validate cloud security configurations and policies
  • Build monitoring solutions that measure security control effectiveness across cloud environments
  • Create tooling that identifies compliance gaps and recommends remediation actions
  • Partner with engineering teams to implement standardized security baselines
  • Automate evidence collection and reporting processes for security and audit requirements
  • Assess cloud resources against established security policies and technical standards
  • Develop dashboards and metrics that provide visibility into security posture and risk exposure
  • Support internal and external audit activities through technical validation and reporting
  • Evaluate emerging cloud services and ensure alignment with security requirements
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of cloud security standards, processes, and automation capabilities

The Offer
  • Bonus OR Commission eligible

You will receive the following benefits
  • Medical Insurance
  • Dental Benefits
  • Vision Benefits
  • Paid Time Off (PTO)
  • 401(k) (including match, if applicable)

Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the US on a full-time basis now and in the future.
