JOB DESCRIPTION
Position Summary

The International Medical Graduate (IMG) Clinical Experience Trainee, for the purpose of gaining clinical experience, is part of a care team working to provide quality comprehensive services to Sea Mar patients, is under the supervision and control of a physician and possesses the International Medical Graduates Clinical Experience License. The IMG Clinical Experience Trainee will work collaboratively with staff to provide team- based coordinated care.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES and/or RESPONSIBILITIES

As a limited license, supervised medical provider, the IMG Clinical Experience Trainee provides primary medical care services to patients of Sea Mar Community Health Centers in accordance with training, experience, certification, insurance and licensure in a manner consistent with guidelines established in the principles of practice at Sea Mar and its mission statement.

The IMG Clinical Experience Trainee will provide appropriate hospital and institutional care as required.

The IMG Clinical Experience Trainee may refer patients to medical specialists or other sources of service when necessary.

The IMG Clinical Experience Trainee prescribes and/or dispenses required medication to patients according to the individual prescriptive authority granted by the Washington State Board.

The IMG Clinical Experience Trainee participates in organizing and directing preventive health programs such as immunization, disease detection and disease prevention activities, including educational programs for patients and community groups in the service areas with approval from the Medical Director and/or Health Center Administrator.

The IMG Clinical Experience Trainee is expected to participate in clinical affairs, working with administrative personnel, the Medical Director and the Chief Medical Officer to improve the patient care experience.

The IMG Clinical Experience Trainee provides care for special groups of patients such as those in nursing homes or other institutions when appropriate.

Qualifications & Requirements

Knowledge or an interest in the unique cultural aspects of the Hispanic people is needed.

Bilingual ability in English and Spanish is preferred.

Pre-hire and annual employee health screening required.

Annual influenza and COVID vaccine required. Only exception is for employees with a medical or religious exemption approved by Administration. Employees with an approved medical or religious exemption must wear a mask at all time during the flu season.

Per Washington State Law for possessing an International Medical Graduate Clinical Experience License:

  • Satisfactorily pass the certification process by the educational commission for foreign medical graduates (ECFMG)
  • Pass USMLE Step one and two
  • Pass a background check
  • The IMG Clinical Experience Trainee must file with the Washington Medical Commission a practice agreement between the license holder and the supervising physician who is of the same or substantially similar clinical specialty prior to beginning practice under this license

Minimal Formal Training

Has graduated from a recognized medical school and has been licensed or otherwise privileged to practice medicine at his or her location of origin.

A current DEA certificate is required. if applicant is requesting privileges to prescribe controlled substances.

This position must obtain Basic Life Support (BLS) within 90 days of hire date and is required to maintain current BLS throughout employment.

A current NRP certificate is required.

Supervision

JOB RELATIONSHIP

Supervised at Sea Mar by a supervising physician and under the oversight of the Chief Medical Officer; the Medical Director; and the Health Center Administrator or delegated administrator as appropriate.

The IMG Clinical Experience Trainee is evaluated on a yearly basis by staff, peers, the Medical Director, the Chief Medical Officer, and the Health Center Administrator.

Employees Supervised: The IMG Clinical Experience Trainee provides clinical supervision to the assigned staff of nurses and other professionals.

Interrelationships: The IMG Clinical Experience Trainee works closely with the Chief Medical Officer, Medical Director, and the Executive Director to realize the programmatic goals of the organization
