JOB SUMMARY:

The Clinical Pharmacy Manager is responsible for the development, supervision, and evaluation of clinical pharmacy services, subject to review and approval by the Director of Pharmacy.  Such services are to be in accordance with evidence-based medication use processes and current practice standards. The Clinical Pharmacy Manager will collaborate with other clinical hospital departments to support a multidisciplinary approach to patient care and ensure that all activities of the department are consistent with overall hospital objectives.

Essential Job Functions:

  1. The Clinical Pharmacy Manager will work in conjunction with the Director of Pharmacy to ensure compliance with all state and federal regulatory and accrediting agencies.
  2. Provides pharmaceutical care to patients, ages neonate to geriatric. Activities include, but are not limited to: drug therapy monitoring, providing drug information, patient counseling, and rounding with medical services.
  3. The Clinical Pharmacy Manager will collaborate with UHS Corporate Clinical Pharmacy Services.
  4. Developes educational materials and provides educational programs for the pharmacy staff and other hospital personnel.
  5. Directs the hospital's adverse drug reaction documentation and reporting process.
  6. Assists in the development and monitoring of clinical services integration.
  7. Assists staff members when dealing with clnically problematic patient.
  8. Performs all duties of a licensed registered Pharmacist as required by the Director and as identified by the ability of established department procedures, policies and laws in performing the duties.
  9. The Clinical Pharmacy Manager will be responsible for coordination of the Pharmacy and Therapeutics (P&T) Committee and will organize the elements of implementation of all P&T-approved initiatives and formulary management.
  10. Assists the medical staff in selecting therapy regimens that cost-effectively meet individual patient needs.

11.The Clinical Pharmacy Manager will oversee and coordinate Antimicrobial Stewardship, Opioid Stewardship, and Medication Safety initiatives of the department and facility.

12.Communicates effectively with patients, physicians, visitors and other employees in a courteous, friendly and helpful manner.

  1. The Clinical Pharmacy Manager may be called upon to perform departmental staffing duties as needed.

14.Travel to offsite locations may be required.

  1. Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. TX State Pharmacist License in good standing is required
  2. Doctor of Pharmacy Degree (Pharm.D.) required.
  3. PGY-1 Hospital Pharmacy Residency training or Board of Pharmacy (BPS) Certification
  4. Continued employment is contingent on successfully maintaining current required certification(s) and/or license(s).
  5. Knowledge of laws and regulations governing the practice of pharmacy.
  6. Knowledge of pharmacy standards, ethics, organizational policies, and procedures.
  7. Ability to serve as a lead worker to subordinate personnel and the ability to assume supervisory responsibilities in the absence of the Director.
  8. Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing in English required, Spanish language skill helpful.
  1. Ability to use computer hardware, various software programs and technology, including word processing and spreadsheet programs.
  2. Participation in Local, State and National Pharmacy Organizations to acquire/improve Competency.
