Description

The Clinical Medical Assistant Lead is responsible for overseeing clinical performances for the Medical Assistants and arranging coverage for day-to-day clinical operations; also works directly as a Medical Assistant, providing assistance to providers in the delivery of medical care to patients. Acts as a role model for clinical staff.

Requirements

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Oversees clinical performances of medical assistants and arranges for coverage for day-to-day clinical operations, ensuring adequate coverage for providers to maximize productivity; works closely with the PM to instruct and delegate duties to the clinical and clerical staff.

2. Monitors overtime and staffing coverage; assists with interviewing candidates for open MA positions; provides or arranges for orientation and training for new clinical and clerical staff; provides input for performance evaluations.

3. Promotes scheduling access with daily review.

4. Participates in quality control/performance improvement activities.

5. Oversees Risk Management activities; works directly with Risk Manager:

  • Proper handling of lab specimens
  • Proper control logs for refrigerator temperatures
  • Sample medications, per policy
  • Monitor all medications and supplies for expiration
  • Infection control measures (Hand hygiene, Cleaning and stocking of exam rooms)

6. Coordinates compliance with quality control logs; oversees clinical/clerical compliance along with PM for MU/ACO/PCMH/UDS measures. 

7. Acts as a super-user for the EMR and provides training and assistance to MA's or schedulers, as needed. 

8. Partners with other site location MA lead to support coverage and trainings when needed. 

9. Assists practice manager with other duties as assigned.

NON-ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 

1. May fill in at front desk, medical records and other areas as needed.

2. Performs other duties and tasks as assigned.

GENERAL EXPECTATIONS:

1. Be committed to the mission of the Bucksport Regional Health Center.

2. Work as a member of the medical team in the performance of duties.

3. Be punctual for scheduled work and use time appropriately.

4. Work in harmonious relationships with all staff, patients, vendors and others.

5. Perform duties in a conscientious, cooperative manner.

6. Perform required amount of work in a timely fashion with a minimum of errors.

7. Be neat and maintain a professional appearance.

8. Maintain confidentiality and protect the Center by keeping information concerning Operations, patients and employees confidential.

9. Assist in the care, observation, and the condition of patients including the execution of procedures prescribed for the direct treatment or therapy of patients. 

10. Performance of job requires close coordination with others. Teamwork is essential.

11. Participation in community activities as a representative of Bucksport Regional Health Center.

QUALIFICATIONS NEEDED FOR POSITION:

Experience and Skill Requirements:  The following experience and skills are considered essential:

  • At least three years of experience as a Certified Medical Assistant required.   
  • Prior team leader, supervisory or scheduling experience preferred.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients and other employees.
  • Ability to communicate and present information.
  • Ability to read, interpret, understand and apply clinical policies and procedures.
  • Ability to identify problems and recommend solutions.
  • Ability to establish priorities and coordinate work activities.

Education Requirements:  The following education requirements are considered essential:

  • Associate's degree in medical assisting or the equivalent in education and related work experience required.
  • Recognized certificate from accredited education institution for Medical Assistant or Certified Nurses Aid, or the equivalent in education and work experience, required.Â
