Seeking a full time Clinical Laboratory Technologist / Medical Technologist to join a great team in the Rochester, NY area!


Job Title:
Medical Technologist

Department: Laboratory

Hours Per Week: 40

Schedule: Tuesday – Saturday, 9:30 AM – 6:00 PM

SUMMARY

The primary role of a Medical Technologist is to perform precise specimen analysis and report results accurately following established procedures. Responsible for recognizing deviation from expected results, analyzing and correcting problems using scientific principles. Performs instrument maintenance and troubleshooting.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Performs precise specimen analysis and reports results accurately following established procedures.

  • Recognizes deviation from expected results, analyzes and corrects problems using scientific principles.

  • Performs instrument maintenance and troubleshooting. Complies with established procedures and company policies.

  • Completes QC Action Logs, preventative maintenance logs and pending lists daily.

  • Makes recommendations and assists in selection of new technology. Participates in the installation, validation and correlation of new technology.

  • Assists with the training of new personnel in the duties and responsibilities in the laboratory. Evaluates progress of training. Makes recommendations for training methods and content to supervisor.

  • Participates in evaluating employees. Discusses and documents promptly any personnel issues with the appropriate supervisor/manager.

  • Continuously assesses work processes and makes suggestions to supervisor for improved work methods and ways to increase efficiency, reduce costs, and solve operational problems.

  • Monitors departmental reagent inventories. Promptly notifies appropriate person when supplies reach reorder level.

  • Works with supervisor(s) and other laboratory staff to plan for and accomplish departmental and organizational goals and objectives. Promotes and supports a positive team environment within the department.

  • Participates in maintaining the department in technical readiness to meet the regulatory compliance standards for New York State, AABB, and any other regulatory agency inspecting the laboratory.

  • Assumes essential department functions as specified by the supervisor in her/his absence.

  • Participates in the development of potential QA indicators. Collects and evaluates data required for QA monitors. Implements improvement plan.

  • Documents technical competency annually. Meets established Continuing Education requirements.

  • Recognizes the need for and assumes additional bench responsibilities when scheduled or in the case of staffing shortage.

  • Assumes responsibility for channeling essential information and investigates laboratory problems as requested. Participates in scheduled laboratory operations meetings.

  • Communicates with external customers when presented with problems or special requests and reports them to the appropriate supervisor/manager.

  • Updates procedure manuals annually. Develops new procedures and compiles start-up documentation required to maintain regulatory compliance. Submits procedures to supervisor/manager for review.

  • Develops necessary skills required to assume supervisor's departmental administrative functions.


REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • New York State Department of Education License, Provisional Permit, or Limited Permit as a Clinical Laboratory Technologist.


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • BS in Medical Technology or BS in a related Science

  • Certification by American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) preferred
