Job description


The Clinical Research Technologist II serves as a bench technologist for the laboratories in the research department performing CAP and/or CLIA licensed clinical diagnostic tests and other regulatory accredited activities such as biorepositories. Bench duties include acquiring and logging in samples, performing, interpreting and resulting assays. The Clinical Research Technologist II understands and possesses the knowledge and skillset to perform the higher-level testing and analysis required for clinical diagnostic testing and other regulatory accredited activities. In addition, this position will participate in research involving the development and validation of new clinical assays or services. Must have proficiency with genomics-based applications including next generation sequencing. Work includes setting up transcriptomic assays, library preparation on Illumina platform from single cell, whole exome, RNAseq to methylation and metagenomics studies. Experience in a CLIA-regulated laboratory is a plus. Expertise in general molecular biology techniques including RT-qPCR, PCR, nucleic acid extraction, QC and quantitation of nucleic acids (Nanodrop, Qubit, Tapestation) is required. Performs advanced safety functions in the laboratory. Ensures viability of materials, reagents, and specimens. Other duties include training and mentoring new technologists, maintaining inventory and assisting the lab director/manager to ensure compliance with CAP, CLIA and JCAHO requirements. This position is also responsible for providing progress and update reports to the lab manager and director.
Essential Functions:
  1. Demonstrates knowledge and performance of clinical diagnostics and other accredited services, consistent with CAP and/or CLIA requirements.
  2. Understands the State and Federal requirements of "Proficiency Testing" and or "Competency Testing" related to CLIA and or CAP certification.
  3. Assist in maintaining laboratory environment and testing process at a level consistent with CAP and CLIA guidelines
  4. Demonstrates the knowledge and skills to perform higher level genomic clinical and research testing protocols and analysis functions related to the lab.
  5. Trains and mentors new lab clinical technologists.
  6. Participating in new assay development
  7. Communicate effectively with physicians and hospital staff

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree or MT with equivalent experience;
  • Knowledge of Q.C. and Q.A. as applied to clinical diagnostic testing;
  • Experience with clinical lab procedures required of a CAP and/or CLIA certified laboratory
