With direct supervision, coordinates the daily support operations of the Lab Associate group. Serves as functional supervisor or team leader for other Lab Associates. Functions and performs all job tasks and patient testing as the Lab Associates.
Position Details:
  • Schedule: FT, 40 hours. Monday - Friday, 8:30am - 5pm. Will be required to be on-call once per month. Must be flexible to work different shifts as needed depending on business need. With rotating weekends and holidays.
  • Department: Laboratory

Primary Responsibilities:
  • Exhibits high level of technical skill and functions as resource for other Lab Associates. Functions as a Lab Associate.
  • Takes lead role in ensuring department workflow is of a high quality.
  • Implement operational procedures in accordance with established guidelines. May make minor modifications to standard procedures. Reviews exceptions and changes with supervisor. Monitors staff understanding of current procedures and ensures procedures are implemented correctly.
  • May act as point of contact for patient and clinician inquiries, problems and complaints. Refers complex issues or requests for test results to appropriate resources.
  • Monitors routine data and information flow for the unit and notifies supervisor of any deviations.
  • May collect data for use in the management decision-making process. Completes standard reports required for the management of the unit.
  • Assured assigned areas confirm to standards of appearance and that the work and exam rooms are neat, clean, adequately stocked and conform to state and local health standards.
  • Coordinates purchasing of supplies and equipment and maintains adequate inventory. Works with Building Services and Purchasing to secure supplies and equipment necessary to operations.
  • May handle scheduling, timesheet and payroll issues for staff.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Accesses only the minimum necessary protected health information (PHI) for the performance of job duties. Actively protects the confidentiality and privacy of all protected health information they access in all its forms (written, verbal, and electronic, etc.) taking reasonable precautions to prohibit unauthorized access. Complies with all Atrius Health and departmental privacy policies, procedures and protocols.
  • Follows HIPAA privacy guidelines without deviation when handling protected health information.
  • Supervisory Responsibilities: Directs and monitors work for small group of Lab Associates. Provides direction and support to staff to assure departmental effectiveness and efficiency. Orients and trains staff. Provides input into evaluating performance. May act as supervisor in absence of actual supervisor

Required Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma/GED
  • 3+ years of experience performing the duties of a Lab Associate

Preferred Qualifications:
  • American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) experience
  • Advanced level of knowledge of Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and certification for CPR

Soft Skills:
  • Strong interpersonal skills needed with the ability to interact effectively with patients and medical professionals
  • Sound judgement with the ability to work and make decisions in a fast-paced environment
