Serving as a focal point for pediatric services throughout the community, CHRISTUS Children's in San Antonio is a world-class children's hospital - both inside and out. In February 2013, CHRISTUS Children's finalized an agreement with Baylor College of Medicine, ranked as the #6 medical school by U.S. News & World Report in 2020-21. Baylor College of Medicine recruits, employs, and oversees physicians at the children's hospital.

Baylor College of Medicine ( is recognized as one of the nation's premier academic health science centers and is known for excellence in education, research, healthcare, and community service. BCM is currently associated with multiple educational, healthcare, and research affiliates.

Summary

The Division of Hospital Medicine of the Department of Pediatrics at Baylor College of Medicine has an opening for a full-time faculty position at CHRISTUS Children's as a Pediatric Hospitalist or a Nocturnist. This position comes with a faculty appointment within the Department of Pediatrics, a competitive salary, and full benefits package. The rank of the appointment will be determined by the candidates' credentials and experience. Physicians interested in joining the PHM division must be committed to education, collaboration and excellence in patient care.

The PHM division consists of thirteen pediatric hospitalists, two fellows and an administrative coordinator. We provide 24/7 in-house coverage and clinical responsibilities include: inpatient management of patients on the general medicine wards, consultation or co-management services to various sub-specialty services, and care of normal newborns. There is full coverage of pediatric specialists and pediatric surgical services with BCM and Christus Children's. Additional duties include active teaching of our PHM fellows, BCM pediatric residents, medical students and outside rotators. Our team takes primary ownership of many hospital- based operations including family-centered care, quality and process improvement and patient safety initiatives. For interested faculty who wish to begin or continue clinical research, The Voelcker Clinical Research Center at Christus Children's is available to meet your needs.

Job Duties

Responsibilities include the provision of hospital care to pediatric inpatients, including overnight coverage; consultations and co-management of sub-specialty, surgical, and psychiatric pediatric patients; pediatric sedation; teaching fellows, residents, medical students and staff; active involvement in inpatient quality, safety, and administrative activities; and protected time for academic/scholarly activities in clinical informatics, outcomes research, child advocacy, education, or quality improvement.

Minimum Qualifications
  • MD/DO degree.
  • Licensed by the Texas Medical Board (or eligible for same).
  • BE/BC in Pediatric Hospital Medicine.
