The department coordinates these collections through affiliated departments (the Cath Lab for marrow and Apheresis Unit for peripheral stem cells). Donors come through the BMCP for their physical exams, filgrastim injections, and to have IVs placed in preparation for collection. A large part of the coordination of these donors is their clearance for donation, the examinations for which may be done by third parties. The assembly and assessment of donors' charts is an ongoing daily process, requiring nursing assessment, along with administrative accuracy and consistency. Each member of the team is cross trained to be able to assist with other team members' tasks. Additionally, discharge instructions are given to donors by an RN or APP for both Bone Marrow and Stem Cell donation. This is an outpatient clinic with hours starting at 0630 until all donors' collections are complete M-F. There are no evening/night/weekend shifts, nor is there any on-call time. Our staff may be required to float to another department as hospital needs require. RNs are required to be capable of starting IVs on the lower arms/hands and are required to administer oral, IV, and SQ medications. A candidate s address must match their driver s license when determining local status, and a copy of the driver s license must be provided at the time of submittal.
