About the Job
 

Assistant Professor, Academic-Track
Department of Biomedical Sciences
University of Minnesota Medical School, Duluth Campus
The Department of Biomedical Sciences at the University of Minnesota Medical School, Duluth Campus, is seeking a highly motivated and efficient Academic Track Assistant Professor who will have the opportunity to employ multidisciplinary approaches to work studying past and present impacts of disease, medical and pharmaceutical choices, and climate change on community health. Project components include but are not limited to archival research on historical medical and pharmaceutical decision-making during past pandemics, remote sensing, ground truthing during field seasons in Alaska, and modeling the effects of ongoing climate change on community infrastructure with an emphasis on health. Project data will be compiled into publicly available online platforms with components from research teams nationally.
This position is available starting immediately and renewable on a yearly basis. The contract may be extended based on performance and funding availability. Salary will be based on NIH scale and commensurate with experience.

Qualifications
 

Preferred qualifications:
Previous experience working in a Medical School, Research setting
Experience in archival research projects related to health, disease, and/or climate change
Archival data management experience including creating digital databases from archival documents
Experience using ArcGIS mapping software and/or statistical programs
Project or lab management experience (experience with USACE or DOD projects a plus)
Required Qualifications:
  Ph.D. in a relevant Scientific field

About the Department
 

The Department of Biomedical Sciences is committed to fostering excellence in teaching and in multidisciplinary research. In addition, our programs are focused on training Native Americans and Underrepresented Minorities in research and health professional careers with a K-12 Native American Science Education outreach program and Native American and Minorities into Biomedical Research program (NIH Bridges) to facilitate a transition of underrepresented minorities from community colleges to undergraduate institutions.  The department consists of 25 faculty with expertise in a wide range of disciplines, from molecular and cell biology to physiology, pharmacology, infectious diseases, and pathology.  Our goal is the advancement of learning and knowledge through multidisciplinary scholarship; and delivery of the basic science curriculum for medical, graduate and undergraduate students.

Pay and Benefits
 

Pay Range: $65,000 - $90,000, depending on education/qualifications/experience

Time Appointment: 75% Appointment

Position Type: Faculty and P&A Staff
