Job description

Job Summary:

As an Intern, Partnerships, you will develop your knowledge in partnership taxation through assisting in preparation of various partnership specific items including but not limited to 704(b) and Taxable income allocations, 704(b) and Tax Capital Account maintenance, liability analysis and allocations, and Tax Receivable Agreement calculations. In this role the Intern, Partnerships will have the opportunity to utilize their educational background while working with more experienced team members who will provide direction and coaching related to a range of partnership taxation issues. As a team member, you will support BDOโ€™s clients both directly and through support of other BDO client service teams.

Job Duties:

Tax Compliance

  • Ensures that: (a) clients comply with all applicable authorities, while at the same time minimizing their tax and reporting burdens, and (b) self and client service teams comply with all Firm policies, standards, and the BDO Tax Quality Manual (โ€œTQMโ€)
    • Effectively uses referencing system and workpapers that tie to the return
    • Completes tasks and organizes file to minimize rework by reviewer
    • Ensures data is collected to comply with filing requirements
    • Takes initiative on impending due dates
    • Assists in the projection of year-end filings

Tax Consulting

  • Assists with developing, recommending, and implementing efficient and effective methods to maximize client benefits, especially by decreasing clientsโ€™ current and future taxes
  • Operates online research tools to gather pertinent tax information
  • Monitors tax law and client factual developments on a regular basis, daily or weekly but at least bi-weekly
  • Develops and communicates to client service team personnel, viewpoints regarding how those developments might affect clients
  • Other duties as required

Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Education:

  • Currently enrolled in Bachelorโ€™s or Masterโ€™s program in Accounting, or Finance, required

Experience:

  • Leadership experience, preferred

License(s)/Certification(s):

  • Actively pursuing school credits to be eligible to sit for the CPA exam, required

Software:

  • Proficiency with the Microsoft Office Suite, required

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Developing analytical, research and critical thinking skills as well as decision-making skills
  • Able to work well in a team environment
  • Positive attitude and willingness to learn
  • Ability to follow instructions as directed
