Haley & Aldrich is seeking an experienced Senior Client Development Manager, Energy to grow our work with electric and gas utilities, independent power producers, electric cooperatives, and other energy sector clients. This role requires both energy market knowledge and experience selling architecture, consulting, and engineering (AEC) services.

The Energy Market Senior Client Development Manager is responsible for leading sales activities specific to energy clients, creating and executing capture plans and sales strategies, working in close partnership with the Market Leader, client account managers, technical leaders, and proposal professionals to deepen client relationships to identify client needs aligned with Haley & Aldrich's capabilities.  The successful candidate will understand how energy clients plan, fund, procure, and execute complex capital, remediation, and regulatory compliance programs. This position requires sound judgement, structured sales practices, persuasive writing, and use of customer relationship management (CRM) tools. This is a full-time, local hybrid role with an expectation of an inoffice presence several days per week with flexibility based on business needs and candidate location. The position may be based out of any of H&A's locations across the U.S.

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

In this position, you will:

  • Develop and implement capture plans for priority pursuits by integrating market and competitive insights, client painpoint analysis, differentiators, and teaming strategies to achieve growth goals for the Energy Market.
  • Work collaboratively with client account managers to build and maintain a qualified pipeline of opportunities with electric utilities, gas utilities, energy developers, cooperatives, and oil and gas companies aligned with Haley & Aldrich's services.
  • Research and analyze market drivers, policy trends, and competitive landscape for regulated utilities, independent power producers, and oil and gas companies.
  • Leverage client feedback and portfolio information to provide actionable insights on client needs, market dynamics, and competitive positioning.
  • Build and maintain high-trust relationships with client account teams.  Align pursuits with clear and differentiated client value propositions tailored to client challenges and investment priorities.
  • Facilitate pursuit decisions through structured No/Go processes in collaboration with the Market Leader and Legal ensuring opportunity due diligence and risk consideration.
  • Understand and advise on contractual arrangements, pricing structures, and risk management specific to energy sector projects.
  • Oversee development and coordination of proposals, proposal budgets, and resource mobilization for both competitive and sole source pursuits.
  • Ensure use of pre-approved responses for critical prequalification packages maintaining compliance and consistency.
  • Integrate lessons learned from prior pursuits and proposal cycles to improve win strategies and success rate.
  • Collaborate closely with business development leaders, technical experts, and client account managers to build client relationships and support cross-selling.
  • Track and report sales pipeline progress, pursuits, and outcomes using CRM and standard tools.
  • Conduct ongoing pipeline assessment to evaluate opportunity quality, alignment with market demand, contractual requirements, and pursuit readiness collaborating with technical and client teams and Market Leader as needed.
  • Uphold company and client health and safety protocols in all aspects of sales leadership.

 

SKILLS/EXPERIENCE
Minimum Skills and Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in civil engineering, geotechnical engineering, mechanical engineering, geology, or related technical discipline.
  • At least 8 years' of business development, client development, capture, account management, or consultative sales experience.
  • Minimum 5 years' experience selling environmental services, geotechnical and civil engineering, construction management, or comparable AEC professional services to energy sector clients, with demonstrated experience selling to regulated utilities.
  • Working knowledge of electric utilities and their business ecosystem, including regulatory drivers, procurement practices, operational priorities, and capital programs.
  • Proven success in creating: capture plans, client value propositions, win themes proposals, and pursuit strategies.
  • Effective proposal writing and editing skills, including the ability to turn technical information into persuasive client-focused content.
  • Strong analytical, organization, and communication skills including experience with budget development and managing multidisciplinary teams on proposal development.
  • Experience with CRM systems such as Salesforce or Deltek Vantagepoint, including pipeline management, activity tracking, and forecasting.
  • Ability to travel for client meetings, industry events, and internal collaboration.

Preferred Skills:

  • Established relationships within investor-owned utilities, public power agencies, electric cooperatives, and gas utilities.
  • Master's degree in a relevant discipline.
  • Prior involvement in industry events or professional organizations focused on energy, environmental compliance, or AEC services.

The salary range for this position Nationwide is 125,000 - 175,000 annually. Actual compensation will be based upon a variety of factors such as location, education, related work experience, certificates, skills, and current market conditions. Haley & Aldrich reviews salary ranges each quarter to assess competitiveness with the market. This role is eligible to participate in the company's performance-based bonus program. This bonus program is based on overall company performance and the results achieved compared to peers.
