How will you make an impact?

The Sr. Manager of Training will provide onsite strategic leadership for site and enterprise learning, training compliance, and capability development across the St. Louis operations. This role is accountable for setting the vision, governance, and operating model for a scalable training function that advances employee capability, strengthens Quality and regulatory readiness, supports career growth, and drives measurable business performance. The role will also identify, evaluate, and implement innovative learning technologies, automation opportunities, and digital solutions that improve training effectiveness, learner engagement, compliance outcomes, and operational efficiency. The Senior Manager will partner with senior leaders, HR, Quality, Operations, and functional stakeholders to align training strategies with business priorities, regulatory expectations, and Thermo Fisher Scientific values.

What will you do?
  • Lead the overall learning, capability development, and training strategy, governance, roadmap, and execution modeled for site and enterprise learning programs supporting leadership, professional, technical, Quality, manufacturing, logistics, engineering, production support, and executive-level audiences.
  • Build, lead, and develop a high-performing Training organization, including talent planning, coaching, performance management, resource allocation, and succession planning.
  • Partner with leaders to identify future workforce capability needs, critical skill gaps, and development strategies that support business growth and organizational readiness.
  • Own training compliance and readiness for client, internal, and regulatory audits; ensure training documentation, deviation support, and system access processes meet expectations.
  • Establish and continuously improve standards for instructional design, qualification programs, curricula, blended learning, e-learning, instructor-led learning, and on-the-job training using modern adult learning practices.
  • Lead the learning technology strategy and ecosystem, including SuccessFactors LMS, Compliance Wire, SFLMS, EDMS, SAP, and other Quality Systems. Evaluate opportunities to improve system utilization, automation, learner experience, reporting capabilities, and integration across platforms to maximize business impact.
  • Drive continuous improvement by applying PPI principles, analytics, and stakeholder feedback to simplify training processes, improve learner experience, reduce compliance risk, and increase program effectiveness.
  • Define, monitor, and communicate learning KPIs, business impact measures, compliance metrics, and ROI; develop dashboards and executive-ready insights for HR and business leadership.
  • Oversee vendor and external partner relationships for learning content, technology, facilitation, and specialized training services.
  • Champion accessible, inclusive, and engaging learning experiences that reinforce organizational values, performance expectations, safety, quality, and operational excellence.
  • Serve as a senior internal consultant and thought leader for capability building development planning, workforce readiness, and organizational change enablement.
  • Assess emerging learning technologies, AI-enabled tools, digital adoption platforms, simulation-based training, and automation opportunities; develop business cases and implementation roadmaps that improve capability development and training efficiency.

  • BA or BS degree in Organizational Development, Learning & Development, Business, Human Resources, Life Sciences, Engineering, or a related field required.
  • Advanced degree, such as MBA, MA/MS in Organizational Development, Learning & Development, Human Resources, or a related discipline, preferred.
Experience
  • 10+ years of progressive experience in Learning & Development, Training, Quality, Operations, or a related regulated environment.
  • 5+ years of people leadership experience, including leading managers or senior professionals and developing high-performing teams.
  • Demonstrated experience leading training strategy and compliance in a regulated environment; experience with 21 CFR requirements, Annex 1, cGMP, and pharmaceutical or biologics manufacturing strongly preferred.
  • Proven ability to influence senior leaders, build cross-functional alignment, and translate complex business needs into practical, scalable learning and capability strategies.
  • Deep knowledge of training development methodology, including ADDIE, Tell/Show/Do, qualification programs, and adult learning principles.
  • Strong understanding of learning technologies, digital learning trends, learning analytics, AI-enabled development tools, knowledge management systems, and workforce capability platforms.
  • Experience managing LMS platforms and digital learning ecosystems, such as SuccessFactors LMS, Compliance Wire, e-learning tools, and reporting platforms.
  • Demonstrated success establishing KPIs, dashboards, and reporting mechanisms that measure training effectiveness, compliance health, learner outcomes, and business impact.
  • Experience leading change, continuous improvement, and process standardization initiatives using PPI, Lean, or similar methodologies.
  • Experience preparing for and supporting client, internal, and regulatory audits, including training records, deviation investigations, corrective actions, and inspection readiness.
  • Experience managing budgets, vendors, and portfolio prioritization for learning programs or training operations preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
  • Strategic leadership capability with the ability to set direction, make prioritization decisions, and deliver results through others in a matrixed environment.
  • Strong understanding of Quality Systems, SFLMS, EDMS, SAP, LMS administration, data integrity, and training documentation expectations.
  • Experience serving as a qualified trainer, training SME, or equivalent role within a regulated environment preferred. Exceptional written, verbal, facilitation, and executive communication skills, including the ability to present complex information clearly to senior leadership.
  • Strong business acumen, analytical thinking, and ability to connect learning outcomes to operational, Quality, compliance, and employee development priorities.
  • Ability to lead multiple priorities independently, manage ambiguity, and drive accountability across teams and stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated commitment to employee development, inclusive leadership, customer focus, operational excellence, and continuous improvement.
  • Sufficient knowledge of Microsoft applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Microsoft Teams.
