Job Description / Essential Elements:
CUCAMONGA SCHOOL DISTRICT
CLASS TITLE: SCHOOL OFFICE ASSISTANT
BASIC FUNCTION:
Under the direction of a Principal, perform clerical duties such as typing, filing, duplicating and answering phones in an assigned school office; serve as receptionist and assist students, parents, employees or community members; prepare and process a variety of paperwork; maintain student records and files; register students; administer first aid; requisition supplies and material; operate a computer; generate reports.
REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES:
Serve as receptionist and answer telephones; take messages and provide information related to school activities, procedures and other information as requested; direct calls to appropriate personnel.
Duplicate, collate, assemble and distribute various materials as requested.
File and record incoming cums; notify teachers and submit requests to the District office; send out and record cums to school and permanent record.
Receive, sort and distribute incoming mail; post notices and distribute flyers as appropriate.
Establish and maintain filing systems; file a variety of data.
Register new students; verify birth certificate and immunization records; assure completeness of forms; prepare new student files and related records.
Prepare tardy slips and re-admit for late student files and related records.
Determine need for supplies and equipment and prepare requisitions; check purchase orders against materials received and resolve discrepancies; distribute supplies to teachers and others according to order form.
Administer basic first aid to students according to established procedures as needed; administer medication to students as directed; maintain daily record of related activities; check students for head lice and chicken pox.

Assist with typing and proofreading a variety of materials as requested; input information into computer and generate a variety of reports and lists such as rosters, reports, master schedule and student history file as assigned.
Assist the school office manager in ADA and attendance reporting and, in the short term absence of the school office manager, shall perform all tasks associated with ADA and attendance reporting.
Receive money, prepare receipts and submit to the District office as directed.
Perform related duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:
KNOWLEDGE OF:
Modern office practices, procedures and equipment.
First aid principles and techniques.
Principles of good public relations.
Correct English usage, grammar, spelling, punctuation and vocabulary.
Telephone techniques and etiquette.
ABILITY TO:
Perform clerical duties such as typing, filing, duplicating and answering phones.
Type at 40 words net per minute from clear copy.
Operate a variety of office equipment including a computer and applicable software.
Exercise good judgment.
Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others.
Communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
Post and maintain records and materials.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Any combination equivalent to: graduation from high school and one year general clerical experience.
LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
Some positions in this class may require the ability to speak, read and write in a second designated language.
Positions in this class will require a valid first aid certificate comparable to the American Red Cross Standard First Aid Certificate.
