Job description

Staff Physician In Geriatrics And Extended Care Program/CLC

Greater Los Angeles Healthcare System (GLAHS) seeks a board-certified physician in Internal Medicine or Family Medicine with added qualifications in geriatric medicine or experience in long-term care for the position of a staff physician in Geriatrics and Extended Care Program/CLC. VA offers a comprehensive total rewards package.

Position duties include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Performs clinical care of older patients with multiple complex health problems in a long-term care setting.
  • Works collaboratively with other physicians, Nurse Practitioners, and physician assistants.
  • Will supervise/teach geriatrics fellows, medical residents, and trainees in other health-related disciplines.
  • Collaborates with the Medical Director in maintaining quality assurance and administrative needs in the nursing home care setting.
  • Collaborates with other healthcare disciplines, especially nursing.
  • Must qualify for a faculty appointment at the Assistant Professor level or higher at the University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA).
  • Communicates and treats customers (veterans, their representatives, visitors, and all VA staff) in a courteous, tactful, and respectful manner.
  • Provides the customer with consistent information according to established policies and procedures.
  • Handles conflict and problems in dealing with the customer constructively and appropriately.
  • Protects printed and electronic files containing sensitive data in accordance with the provisions of the Privacy Act of 1974 and other applicable laws, Federal regulations, VA statutes and policy, and VHA policy.
  • Protects the data from unauthorized release or from loss, alteration, or unauthorized deletion. Follows applicable regulations and instructions regarding access to computerized files, release of access codes, etc.
  • Uses word processing software to execute several office automation functions such as storing and retrieving electronic documents and files; activating printers; inserting and deleting text, formatting letters, reports, and memoranda; and transmitting and receiving e-mail. Uses the Veterans Health Information and Technology Architecture (VistA) to access information in the Medical Center Computer System.
  • Demonstrates infection control practices for disease prevention (i.e., hand washing, universal precautions/isolation procedures, including TB requirement/precautions.

Work Schedule: Full-time position, actual tour to be discussed with supervisor.
