Description:

The Pre-Kindergarten Teacher provides a safe, nurturing, and developmentally appropriate learning environment that supports early childhood growth across academic, social-emotional, and behavioral domains. The teacher delivers high-quality instruction aligned to early learning standards and fosters strong partnerships with families to support school readiness.

Work Schedule

Teacher hours follow the elementary school schedule.

Students are served in a split-session model:

• Morning Session: 8:30 AM 11:00 AM
• Afternoon Session: 1:00 PM 3:45 PM

Additional time is expected for planning, preparation, family communication, and collaboration.

Instructional Program

The Pre-K program includes the following core components:

• Morning Meeting to build classroom community and establish routines
• Purposeful Play to support social-emotional development and learning through exploration
• CKLA Pre-K for early literacy development
• Roots Math for foundational numeracy skills

An approved Pre-K assessment system will be utilized to monitor student growth and inform instruction. All necessary training and professional development for program implementation will be provided.

Primary Responsibilities

Instruction & Classroom Environment

• Plan and deliver developmentally appropriate, standards-aligned instruction using play-based and structured approaches.
• Create a safe, engaging, and inclusive classroom environment that supports exploration and early learning.
• Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of all learners.
• Integrate social-emotional learning into daily routines and instruction.

Assessment & Progress Monitoring

• Implement the district's approved Pre-K assessment system with fidelity.
• Monitor and document student progress regularly.
• Use assessment data to inform instruction and support student growth.
• Communicate student progress clearly with families.

Family & Community Engagement

• Build strong, positive relationships with families.
• Maintain consistent communication regarding student development and classroom experiences.
• Support family understanding of early learning and school readiness.

Collaboration & Professional Responsibilities

• Collaborate with colleagues, specialists, and support staff.
• Participate in team meetings and professional learning opportunities.
• Engage in all required training related to curriculum, assessment, and instructional practices.
• Maintain compliance with district, state, and program expectations.

Classroom Management & Culture

• Establish a positive, structured classroom culture with clear routines and expectations.
• Use developmentally appropriate strategies to support student behavior.

• Promote independence, cooperation, and self-regulation.

  Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• Knowledge of current teaching methods and educational pedagogy, as well as differentiates instruction based upon student learning styles.
• Knowledge of elementary school curriculum and concepts.
• Knowledge of data information systems, data analysis and the formulation of action plans.
• Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws regarding education and students.
• Ability to use computer network system and software applications as needed.
• Ability to organize and coordinate work.
• Ability to communicate effectively with students and parents.
• Ability to engage in self-evaluation with regard to performance and professional growth.
• Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others contacted in the course of work.
• Ability to actively engage with young children throughout the day (sitting, standing, kneeling, and movement).
• Ability to supervise students in classroom and playground settings.
   
  

Physical and Mental Demands, Work Hazards
Works in standard office and school building environments.

Qualifications Profile

• Valid state certification in Early Childhood Education (Pre-K4 or equivalent).
• Knowledge of early childhood development and developmentally appropriate practices.
• Strong communication, organization, and collaboration skills.

Education

• Bachelors from an accredited college or university in Elementary Education or related discipline applicable to teaching assignment.
• Masters Degree in related area preferred.
