Job Summary:
The Manager of the Civil/Structural/Architectural (CSA) Department is responsible for overseeing the engineering & design teams, ensuring projects are completed on time, within budget, and to the required standards. This role involves managing and training staff, staff resource planning, maintaining department quality control standards, coordinating with other departments, and maintaining client relationships.
Job Responsibilities:
  • Oversee a team of civil/structural engineers and designers, leading them in project design, development, and execution.
  • Responsible for profitable growth of the department; ensuring staff levels and staff assignments meet project requirements while maintaining billable goals.
  • Recruitment, development, training, and retention of staff.
  • Ensure department activities adhere to company guidelines and procedures. 
  • Foster a positive, collaborative, and high-performance culture within the department.
  • Continually seek ways to improve departmental processes and efficiencies.
  • Define, assign, and monitor department task assignments.
  • Monitor and maintain scope, schedule, and budget for CSA department.
  • Develop bids, proposals, scopes of work, estimates, schedules, material lists, specifications, calculations, design concepts, design drawings, correspondence, scope changes submittals, and other project documentation per customer and company guidelines.
  • Ensure all department deliverables comply with codes, standards, and project milestones.
  • Plan and lead department meetings to communicate priorities, performance updates, and other essential information.
  • Build and maintain positive relationships with clients, suppliers, and contractors.
Job Requirements
  • Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering or Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering Technology.
  • 15+ years of heavy industrial experience.
  • PE license with ability to obtain licenses in multiple states.
  • Significant experience in structural engineering, with a strong track record of project delivery.
  • Five (5) or more years of relevant managerial experience.
  • Experience managing staff, ensuring project compliance, coordinating with clients and other departments, overseeing budgets, and contributing to business development efforts like proposal writing and cost estimation.
  • Experience with equipment foundations/supports, piping supports, process buildings, access platforms, etc.
  • Experience in various types of steel and concrete construction methodologies.
  • Experience in conventional shallow and deep foundation systems.
  • Retrofit experience.
  • Knowledge of relevant risk management issues (contractual terms, technical feasibility, etc.).
  • Working knowledge of OSHA, API-620, API-650, NFPA 13, IBC, AISC, ACI-318, ACI-530, AISI, and ASCE-7 codes.
  • Experience in preparing structural and civil construction plans and specifications.
  • Working knowledge of static and dynamic load applications.
  • Understanding of the structural considerations associated with demolition of both structures and equipment.
  • Working knowledge of alternative materials and construction methodologies as may be necessary to facilitate clients’ needs.
  • Working knowledge of earth pressures and their effect on design.
  • Working knowledge of considerations of other trades as related to efficiently designed structural systems.
  • Working knowledge and understanding of civil design to include topographic surveys, erosion and sediment control measures, storm water management, staking and site layout and underground utility plans.
  • Working knowledge and understanding of IBC with regards to building egress, stairs, and ramp construction, building construction types, occupancy, and fire protection elements.
  • Possess ability to develop General Arrangements and Equipment Arrangements by working with other discipline designers and engineers to obtain the required vendor equipment and code requirements such as egress, egress travel paths, and electrical/mechanical equipment clearances.
  • Skilled understanding of maintenance & constructability considerations in all design applications.
  • Experience in project management including project estimating.
  • Proven technical and business writing skills.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Windows including Microsoft Excel and Project.
  • Proficient understanding of AutoCAD 3D design with various structural and civil software packages (AutoCAD, Advanced Steel, Revit, RISA 3D, STADD, ROBOT).
  • Effective communication and organizational skills.
