Job description

Duties Description Under the supervision of the Park Manager 1, grade 18, the Trades Specialist (Plumber & Steamfitter), SG-12, will be assigned to the Regional Capital Facilities Construction Crew working out of Green Lakes State Park, and will perform journey-level plumbing and steam fitting tasks within the regional water, wastewater, and plumbing department. Duties will include, but are not limited to: Repair, maintain, and install various plumbing fixtures and appliances such as sinks, showers, toilets, urinals, drinking fountains, hot water appliances, splash pad & fountain operations, etc. Repair, maintain, and install water distribution lines, sewer infrastructure components, and natural gas or propane supply lines.

Plan and lay out projects, including preparing materials lists and placing orders in compliance with NYS purchasing guidelines. Execute projects and tasks that require excavation and/or confined space entry. Assist in the location of underground utility infrastructure.

Assist in the operation and testing of potable water supplies and wastewater treatment systems. Perform routine preventative maintenance on all assigned hand and power tools to ensure they are in good working order and in compliance with applicable standards. Maintain daily activity reports, along with other required written records.

Minimum Qualifications Four years of full-time experience* in plumbing under a skilled tradesperson; which would provide training equivalent to that given in a training, apprenticeship, or equivalent program, OR an equivalent combination of experience and training gained by completion of technical courses in plumbing at a school, institute, or branch of the Armed Services; OR successful completion of the two-year Trades Specialist (Plumber & Steamfitter) traineeship or a two-year plumbing training, apprenticeship, or equivalent program* such as the New York State Civil Service Employees Association-Partnership Applied Skilled Trades Traineeship and Certificate Program. * Successful completion of the traineeship and the training program includes a total of 288 hours of trade-specific classroom instruction, 45 hours of technical math course work, 45 hours of technical communications course work, and 15 hours of blueprint/schematic reading course work. Course work must be completed with an average of "C" or better.

Additionally, successful completion of the traineeship also includes 4,000 hours of on-the-job training. *If verifiable, we will accept and prorate appropriate part-time and volunteer experience. Additional Comments OPERATIONAL NEEDS: Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license that allows the candidate to operate a vehicle in New York State as a term and condition of employment.

Must be available to work a variable schedule, including different days, hours, or overtime as needed. Must have a working knowledge of the safe operation of hand and stationary shop tools. Must be able to lift 50lbs.
