Deputy Attorneys General, with critical support from criminal special investigators, victim service specialists, paraprofessionals, and administrative staff, prosecute criminal cases, enforce consumer laws, provide counsel to state agencies, ensure the public's access to open government, protect the abused, and much more.
Summary Statement
There is an immediate need for a Special Investigator in the Administration Division, New Castle County Office, located in Wilmington, Delaware. This Special Investigator will work directly within the Administrative Division conducting a wide variety of investigations supporting the mission of the Department of Justice. This Special Investigator will be supervised by the Director of Special Investigations. The special investigator will interview witnesses, obtain evidence, present evidence as necessary in a variety of proceedings, and testify when appropriate and provide overall investigative assistance to the Deputy Attorneys General in all divisions within the Department of Justice. This Special Investigator will prepare and submit timely reports of interviews and investigations. This Special Investigators will maintain professional liaisons and strong lines of communications and coordination with relevant law enforcement agencies. This Special Investigator will maintain an effective level of communication and coordination with all other Special Investigators in the division.
Essential Functions

• Conducts investigations, which includes conducting interviews to obtain confidential information, gathering evidence and documenting findings.
• Interviews witnesses, obtains evidence, attends court proceedings, and testifies when appropriate and provide overall vertical assistance to Deputy Attorney Generals on specific prosecutions or investigations.
• Verifies claims of alleged or probable violations.
• Examines various records and documents in order to ascertain relevant information.
• Identifies, gathers, collects, evaluates and preserves evidence.
• Makes judgments after evaluating all available facts and recommends appropriate action.
• Interprets and applies applicable laws, rules, regulations, standards, policies, and procedures.
• Prepares comprehensive and timely investigative reports; documenting interviews and other investigative efforts.
• Testifies in criminal or civil courts, before a Grand Jury, or during an administrative hearing.
• May conduct surveillance and undercover investigations.
• Prepares criminal or civil cases for prosecution.
• Ability to work independently or in a team to investigate and prosecute complex cases.
• Maintains professional liaisons and strong lines of communications with other law enforcement partners.
Job Requirements
1. Minimum five years law enforcement experience.
2. Ability to investigate complex and difficult cases both independently and as part of a team.
3. Ability to prepare comprehensive investigative reports for review by a Deputy Attorney General for civil and criminal complaints.
4. Strong written and verbal communication skills.
5. Current or recent Police Officers Standards Training ("POST") certification.
6. Familiarity with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), DELJIS, NCIC, and LEISS.
7. Possession of a valid driver's license.
8. Ability to qualify to carry a DOJ-issued firearm.
9. Willingness to travel and attend various training opportunities as needed.

This position is covered by a collective bargaining agreement based on its individual terms.
