Job Title: Civil Designer Primary Function:
The Civil designer will perform routine design assignments, which require knowledge and skill in basic design techniques and procedures, under close supervision. Drafting will comprise a large portion of job responsibility. Thorough knowledge of CAD will be required.

Duties & Responsibilities
Employee may be called upon to perform any or all of the following functions:

  • Produce new drawings from examples of previous projects and/or standards with some supervision
  • Research information in catalogues, specifications, corporate standards, or other reference material
  • Calculate structure heights and weights, concrete volumes, equipment fit-up, or other basic tasks
  • Learn and properly use the document management system
  • Learn and apply corporate standard engineering practices
  • Take personal responsibility for the quality and accuracy of his/her work
  • Bring potential project-related problems and possible solutions to the attention of the responsible party
  • Travel out of town for short periods of time as required by projects and assignments
  • Other duties as required

Minimum Qualifications / Experience
Associates degree in drafting & Design is required. Extensive experience in drafting disciplines with a background in civil / structural or transmission design is strongly preferred. Experience with AutoCAD 2010 or newer is required. Experience with Microstation or PLS-CADD is a plus.

Possess skills in the following areas:

  • Civil drafting experience for structural substation and transmission line projects is preferred
  • Word processing, spread sheet, and e-mail software
  • Mathematics, including algebra and basic trigonometry
  • Extensive knowledge of various CADD programs
  • Basic knowledge of the major components of a substation
  • Basic oral and written communications
  • Basic knowledge of the types of drawings required to construct an electrical substation
  • Working in a team environment
  • Communicating effectively with co-workers
