Houston Engineering, Inc. (HEI) is an employee-owned, multidisciplinary civil engineering consulting firm with offices across the Midwest. With more than 55 years of award-winning excellence, our team provides a full range of services in the areas of water resources, environmental, municipal infrastructure, transportation, surveying and reality capture, and geospatial technology.

We are seeking a Civil Engineering Technician to join our team and support surveyors and engineers in our municipal, transportation, and water resources sectors. This role is intended for an individual with 0-3 years of prior related experience with a passion for working on a team to provide a full range of civil engineering services. Our Civil Technicians receive ongoing mentorship and guidance from experienced designers and technicians as they grow in their careers. If you are looking to build your career in a high-performing, collaborative environment, this role may be an excellent fit.

Job Description
  • Assist engineers with project design and construction plan development applying both MicroStation ORD and AutoCAD Civil3D tools
  • Develop preliminary layouts, plans, and specifications
  • Support survey crew in completing construction staking and topographic surveys
  • Observe and document project construction site activities to determine conformance with design plans and material specifications
  • Communicate with HEI staff and PMs regarding construction site operations
  • Represent Houston Engineering, Inc in communications with contractors and landowners
Qualifications
  • Accredited degree in Civil Engineering Technology, Construction Management, GIS, Land Surveying or other equivalent experience
  • Authorized to work in the United States permanently without the requirement of sponsorship at any point in the future. Sponsorship is not available for this position.
  • Valid driver's license with a good driving record
  • Capability to work outside for an extended period as construction observation duties require
  • Prior experience developing or working on construction profiles, plans and specifications is desired
  • Prior experience operating industry-standard software such as MicroStation ORD and AutoCAD Civil3D is desired
