Job description

RS&H is seeking enthusiastic detail oriented Civil Engineering graduates with 0 to 2 years of experience for full time employment in our Glen Allen OR Verona, Virginia office. Successful candidates will assist with various design related assignments, varied analysis, and varied field duties on transportation projects primarily for state and local governments in Virginia and the southeast. Potential candidates include recent graduates as well with broad civil engineering coursework and working experiences.

As part of the infrastructure team, you'll serve an integral role in the firm by compiling data and assisting with permit and report preparation and material testing; completing elementary design calculations and preparing quantity takeoffs and estimates and engineering plans; performing basic design tasks utilizing engineering software and technology; preparing drawings and visual aids; and performing as-needed field reviews and observations of ongoing construction projects to gain increased understanding of construction practices and design applications.

To be successful in this role, you must:

Minimum Qualifications

  • Minimum B.S. in Civil Engineering from an ABET accredited institution is required. Coursework/experience in transportation, geometric design of highways, traffic engineering, construction cost estimating, land development, construction management, hydraulics, hydrology, stormwater management, geotechnical, and civil engineering materials is required. Applicants must sate in their applications whether they have current eligibility to work in the United States, applications without this information will not be considered.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Microstation, GEOPAK, OpenRoads, AutoCAD Civil 3D, ArcGIS, HCS, SYNCHRO, Primavera P6 software experience a plus. Recent graduates with internships, co-op, or previous employment related to the heavy/highway industry or engineering industry are preferred. Preference will be given to candidates living in the proximity of the work location. Certification as an Engineer-In-Training by successful completion of fundamentals of engineering exam is preferred.

Special Requirements

  • A valid Virginia driver’s license or the ability to obtain the license within one month of hire is required. A driver’s license records check, criminal history records check, and a finger print check are required. Successful candidates may be required to travel and perform physical duties associated with field assignments as needed.

The salary for this position in Virginia ranges from $70,000.00 to $80,000.00 annually.  However, the selected individual’s compensation will be determined based on their specific education, qualifications, experience, and work location.
