Your Opportunity
As a Civil Engineer in Training in our Community Development Group, you will have the opportunity to work on a wide variety of innovative and diverse land development projects. This position involves working collaboratively with design teams in the development of construction plans and specifications; preparing reports, studies, and construction contract documents; computing quantities and preparing cost estimates; performing field observations and assisting in the coordination and management of construction activities.
Your Key Responsibilities
  • Perform civil design and technical tasks on projects under the supervision of the Project Manager or Project Engineer.
  • Work with other engineering disciplines and professionals in the coordination of the project.
  • Perform data analysis and calculations to analyze and design civil system components.
  • Collect data and gathering information to support design decisions.
  • Perform field work/construction observation under the supervision of a senior engineer/designer and/or construction manager.
  • Interpret and verify compliance with applicable codes and engineering standards and practices.
  • Analyze proposed project solutions to ensure reliability, resource efficiency and cost effectiveness.
  • Communicate professionally and effectively, both verbally and written, with project team members, clients, and contractors.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
Your Capabilities and Credentials
  • Strong foundational understanding of general concepts of civil engineering design.
  • Ability to participate and collaborate in a project team setting and to engage in creative and critical thought.
  • Ability to interpret sketches, drawings, building programs and other similar materials.
  • Good communication skills, attentiveness to detail, and multi-tasking ability.
  • Willingness to learn new skills and interface with multiple project managers.
  • Proficient with MS Office Suite including Word, Excel, OneNote, and OneDrive.
  • Proficient with AutoCAD and Civil3D.
  • Possess a valid driver's license with a good driving record.

Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or an equivalent combination of education and related experience.
  • Minimum of 1 year of related professional work or Co-op/Internship experience preferred.
  • Engineer-in-Training designation, successful completion of the EIT exam or the ability to take the EIT exam within six months of starting preferred.

About the Team
Pay Transparency: In compliance with pay transparency laws, pay ranges are provided for positions in locations where required. Please note, the final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible. Actual compensation for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on the agreed number of working hours per week.
Benefits Summary: Regular full-time and part-time employees (working at least 20 hours per week) have access to medical, dental, and vision plans, a wellness program, health saving accounts, flexible spending accounts, 401(k) plan, employee stock purchase program, life and accidental death & dismemberment (AD&D) insurance, short-term/long-term disability plans, emergency travel benefits, tuition reimbursement, professional membership fee coverage and paid family leave. Regular full-time and part-time employees will receive ten paid holidays in each calendar year. In addition, employees will be eligible to accrue vacation between 10 and 20 days per year and eligible for paid sick leave (and if more generous, in accordance with state and local law).
Temporary/casual employees have access to 401(k) plans, employee stock purchase program, and paid leave, in accordance with state and local law.
