Job description

THOMPSON & LITTON, a multi-disciplined firm with an established practice, which includes both public and private sector clientele, has an immediate opening for an entry level Civil Engineer. The candidate must be a graduate with a B.S. in Civil Engineering and preferably a licensed Engineer-In-Training or close to it. The candidate's background should include coursework focus in land development design. Experience with water and sewer systems design would be a plus.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Assists in the preparation of engineering project proposals.
  • Review of municipal zoning, development ordinances and applicable local, state and federal agency regulations to determine land development limitations.
  • Performs site visits, research and due diligence on projects as required to provide the background information to start a new project.
  • Development of conceptual site layouts based on client's objectives and results of due diligence work.
  • Grading design and earthwork analyses to ensure proper drainage and value engineering is achieved by providing a balanced site.
  • Erosion and Sediment Control design including preparation of narratives.
  • Design of Stormwater Management Systems including Stormwater Conveyance Systems, Stormwater Storage Systems and Water Quality Best Management Practices.
  • Performs supporting calculations to demonstrate designs meet all applicable local, state and federal regulations.
  • Design of Utility Systems including sanitary sewer, water utility distribution systems, water and sewer pump stations, etc.
  • Preparation of Technical Specifications.
  • Preparation of Construction Cost Estimates based upon site plan drawings.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering or related field.
  • Strong verbal communication and writing skills.
  • Proficiency using MS Word and Excel.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) designation.
  • Strong Proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D.
  • Technical skills in the design of land development.
