Job Summary
The Assistant Director of Civics Education position in the College of Education is a 12-month position located on the campus of American Village in Montevallo, AL. This position is responsible for assisting with the development and delivery of a civics curriculum using primary source documents to teach students to interpret, analyze, and understand various aspects of civics as outlined in the Alabama Course of Study and High School civics exam; assisting with the development, promotion, and implementation of programs and initiatives; building relationships with school districts and community partners; serving as a liaison between American Village and Troy University; assisting with preparation and delivery of regular progress reports; assisting with directing utilization of the ACCESS program; assisting with the organization and delivery of the Trojan Patriot Academy, and other job duties as defined by the supervisor. The Assistant Director will be expected to travel from the American Village to the Troy University campus in Troy, AL, for various meetings and events and will attend education and civics conferences to share information about educational materials and programs when needed. The Assistant Director should be able to present sessions to students, educators, and community members, as well as coordinate logistical efforts for all learning endeavors.
Minimum Qualifications
1. Earned Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in a relevant field such as American History, Government, Political Science, or Education.
2. Extensive knowledge of U.S. History, Alabama History, and U.S. Government.
3. Classroom teaching experience in K-12 and/or college, using immersive student experiences and/or research activities to enhance student achievement.
4. Experience using technology to enhance instruction.
5. Strong organizational skills/project management.
6. Strong formal and informal communication skills (written, oral, and multi-media).
7. Ability to multi-task.
8. Ability to utilize common software suites (e.g., Microsoft Office).
Preferred Qualifications
1. Earned Master's degree from an accredited institution in a relevant field such as American History, Government, Political Science, or Education.
2. Leadership experience with an educational institution, school system, historical society, museum, or similar organization.
3. Experience in effective strategies and utilization of distance learning.
4. Knowledge of the state Social Studies Course of Study and familiarity with the Alabama Civics Test.
5. Experience in performance assessment, budget management, etc.
6. Knowledge of Alabama Connecting Classrooms, Educators, and Students Statewide (ACCESS)
Will this position require driving (personal vehicle, university vehicle, utility vehicle, or golf cart) in order to perform the job duties?
Driving may be necessary but is not a primary responsibility
