Job description

Summary/Objective:

The Material Handler in the Finishing Department is responsible for supporting the profitability of Flower City by performing all duties with the highest level of efficiency. By carrying out the responsibilities outlined below, the Material Handler in the Finishing Department plays a critical role in supporting the department operations and ensuring consistently high levels of productivity.

Schedule

This position is for our B Shift: Monday–Friday, 3:30 PM–12:00 AM (Midnight)

Candidates must be willing to train on our A Shift: Monday–Friday, 7:00 AM–3:30 PM

• Training may last up to four weeks, depending on your learning pace and readiness to transition independently to the B Shift.

Essential Functions:

  • Deliver raw materials to, and remove finished products/scrap from, machine workstations to maintain continuous operations.
  • Aid machine operators in loading, setting up, and preparing materials for production, including banding or packaging finished components.
  • Safely operate forklifts, pallet jacks, and other heavy equipment to transport materials between storage, production areas, and loading docks.
  • Maintain cooperative working relationship with supervisor.
  • Demonstrate ability to tactfully handle difficult situations.
  • Consistently shows ability to recognize and deal with priorities.
  • Perform all duties in an independent manner with little supervision.
  • Recognize and performs duties which need to be performed although not directly assigned.
  • Any other duties, as assigned.

Competencies:

  • Machine Operation
  • Seeks guidance and direction as necessary for performance of duties.
  • Demonstrates good judgement in investigating problems.
  • Respects the confidentiality of company information.

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • 1-3 years of experience in a Manufacturing setting
  • Packaging experience highly preferred

Physical Demands:

  • Sitting, standing, and/or walking for up to eight hours per day.
  • Frequently required to lift and/or carry up to 50 lbs.
  • Occasionally required to stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and climb.
  • Regularly required to talk and/or hear, see, and perform repetitive motion.
  • Required to see color and use depth perception.
