Job description

GENERAL DESCRIPTION
Under the direct supervision of the Librarian II - Branch Manager - Main Branch, this position provides prompt and friendly customer service to all library customers; shelves returned library materials; ensures that items are housed in the correct order and assists the circulation team with checking circulation materials in and out.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED
This position exercises no supervision.
IMPORTANT AND ESSENTIAL DUTIES
Accurately shelves library materials and straighten collections, demonstrating strong attention to detail.
Performs regular shelf-reading to ensure proper order and assists in creating and maintaining attractive displays.
Maintains the cleanliness and appearance of public areas, including tables and seating, to ensure a welcoming environment.
Assists at the circulation desk as needed, checking library materials in and out efficiently and accurately.
Greets and directs patrons to appropriate staff members in a friendly, helpful manner, providing excellent customer service.
Follows established procedures with minimal supervision and promptly reports issues or concerns to a supervisor.
OTHER JOB RELATED DUTIES
Perform other job-related duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Quickly learn and perform routine library functions and procedures accurately.

Follow instructions and learn to use the computerized circulation system.
Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work, both internally and externally.

Experience and Training Guidelines:
For positions with more than one level, all listed requirements at the lower levels are required at the higher levels. Any combination equivalent to experience and training to provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities may be qualifying. Knowledge, skills, and abilities may be obtained through:
Experience:
Six (6) months of experience in a customer service position is preferred.
Education/Training:
A high school diploma or GED is required.

Essential duties require the following physical skills and work environment:
