Description
JOB SUMMARY
The purpose of the class is to perform routine library functions and general clerical work in assigned service. Provides assistance to patrons with locating and checking out materials, shelving library materials and other clerical duties as assigned; and to provide professional and courteous customer service at all times. The class is given a general outline of work to be performed and is free to develop work methods and sequences; work is reviewed periodically by supervisor.
Duties
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
โ€ข Assists patrons with locating resources and checking in and out materials.
โ€ข Updates patron records and issue library cards.
โ€ข Places holds on books and materials as requested.
โ€ข Inspects returned materials for damage, verifies due date and computes and receives any applicable fines.
โ€ข Retrieves deposited materials from book return.
โ€ข Prepares library for opening and closing.
โ€ข Ensures previously shelved items are in correct order.
โ€ข Assists the public in the use of technology, including software, online tools, and mobile devices.
โ€ข Provides pro-active customer service in assisting patrons in all areas of the library.
โ€ข Performs general administrative/clerical work as required, including but not limited to preparing reports and correspondence, entering, and retrieving computer data, copying, and filing document, answering the telephone, etc.
โ€ข Attends trainings, meetings, workshops, conferences, etc., as necessary to maintain job knowledge and skills.
โ€ข Performs other related job duties as assigned.

Education and Experience:
High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
Special Qualifications:
Candidate must be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time position; the Library is open from 8am to 8pm seven days a week. Work schedules are assigned based on operational need. Employees must work 40 hours weekly to maintain full-time status. Employees must be available to work evenings, weekends and holidays during emergencies or as requested. Positions may require travel throughout the County and between library branches as needed.
