Job description

HVAC Technician

Job Type: Full Time, Non-Exempt

Shift: Monday to Friday from 7:00 am to 4:00 pm

Pay: $30.50 to $34.00 per hour

Location: Taneytown, MD

Who You Are:

As an HVAC Technician, you'll be responsible for installing, maintaining and repairing heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems to ensure optimal climate conditions for cannabis cultivation, processing, and storage.

You'll ensure precise temperature, humidity, and airflow to support healthy plants, top-quality products, and regulatory compliance. Working closely with cultivation and operations teams, you'll help keep systems running efficiently.

What You'll Do:

  • Install, maintain, and repair HVAC systems: Keep air handlers, dehumidifiers, ventilation units, and CO enrichment systems running smoothly for optimal plant growth.
  • Monitor and adjust climate controls: Ensure ideal temperature, humidity, and air circulation levels to maintain a stable cultivation environment.
  • Troubleshoot and repair issues: Quickly diagnose and resolve HVAC-related problems to minimize downtime and maintain efficiency.
  • Perform preventive maintenance: Regularly clean, replace filters, and inspect system components to extend equipment life and prevent breakdowns.
  • Ensure compliance: Follow state and local cannabis industry regulations for climate control, air filtration, odor mitigation, and EPA refrigerant handling guidelines.
  • Support energy efficiency efforts: Assist in identifying and implementing solutions to optimize system performance and reduce operating costs.
  • Maintain accurate records: Track system performance, maintenance schedules, and compliance reports for internal and regulatory needs.
  • Collaborate with teams: Work closely with cultivation, processing, and retail teams to meet facility climate requirements.
  • Follow safety and SOP guidelines: Adhere to OSHA standards, company procedures, and assist with contractor coordination for major repairs and inspections.

What You'll Bring:

  • High school diploma or equivalent (required)
  • Technical school certification or 1-2 years of experience in commercial or residential HVAC (required)
  • At least 5 years of hands-on experience in HVAC installation, repair, and maintenance
  • EPA 608 Universal certification (required)
  • Strong knowledge of HVAC systems, including heating, cooling, dehumidification, and ventilation
  • Understanding of climate control for indoor cultivation, with expertise in temperature and humidity management
  • Ability to diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and refrigeration components of HVAC systems
  • Attention to detail and efficiency, with the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment

Even Better If:

  • You have an HVAC certification (preferred).
  • You've worked in controlled environment agriculture, food processing, or the cannabis industry-a big plus!
  • You have a basic understanding of cannabis industry regulations related to air quality and climate control.
  • You're familiar with Building Management Systems (BMS) and how they integrate with HVAC operations.
  • You have experience with Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs), including installation, troubleshooting, and programming.
  • You're comfortable using Microsoft Office Suite for documentation and reporting.

Physical Requirements:

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, sit, talk or hear, use hands to finger or feel, reach with hands and arms, climb and balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee is occasionally required to lift up to 50 lbs. This position has allergen warnings, potential exposure to dust, pollen, and plant pathogens, requires the ability to work in confined spaces, requires a high-stress tolerance, adaptability, and flexibility, and the ability to work in an ever changing environment.
