Job description

About Cinder
Cinder provides a cutting-edge platform to protect the internet. Trust & Safety teams at the world's most influential companies need powerful solutions that allow them to innovate and adapt as quickly as the threats they face. Companies rely on our software to make policies, moderate, enforce, investigate, and disrupt threats like hate groups, and state-sponsored disinformation campaigns.
Cinder is seeking an experienced Forward Deployed Engineer to join our team. We're building an enterprise-grade platform to make the internet safer and we need highly curious, hard-working self-starters.
This role is based in New York and will involve close collaboration with Cinder's teams in London and San Francisco. We also believe in the value of frequent in-person meet-ups and learning face to face. We offer health, vision & dental benefits and a 401(k) plan with employer matching.
What you'll do
Forward Deployed Engineers (FDEs) at Cinder work directly inside our customers' ecosystems - embedding with their Trust & Safety, engineering, and policy teams to deliver lasting impact. You'll act as both a technical implementer and a strategic advisor, helping customers unlock the full potential of Cinder to solve their most critical safety challenge.
In this role, you'll apply your problem-solving skills, creativity, and technical expertise to design and implement solutions that measurably improve internet safety outcomes.
Concretely, you will:
  1. Transform internet platform safety by embedding directly with our most strategic enterprise customers to implement Cinder.
  2. Drive adoption of cutting-edge user protection measures at today's largest and most popular internet platforms
  3. Work directly with strategic customers to rapidly diagnose and solve their safety problems with technical and strategic solutions
  4. Serve as the subject matter expert on Cinder's platform and Trust and Safety practices for customers as well as industry and government agencies
  5. Address technical challenges (bugs, missing feature, last mile-development, etc) or collaborate with our engineering and product teams to efficiently hand off projects.
  6. Collaborate with Customer Success to effectively triage and prioritize feedback from thousands of Cinder users.
  7. Contribute to the growth and success of the Engineering and Customer Success organizations

About You
  1. You have a Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems or a related field or equivalent years of relevant work experience
  2. You've been a Forward Deployed Engineer, software engineer, solutions engineer, sales engineer (or any other relevant title) in a fast-paced, high-growth environment.
  3. You possess a strong understanding of safety engineering and/or safety operations via firsthand experience in the space.
  4. Alternatively, you've been an early technical hire (FDE, solutions engineer, or similar) at a high-growth SaaS company and successfully partnered with large enterprise customers to deploy technical solutions at scale.
  5. You have perfected the ability to collaborate effectively with enterprise-level customers and navigate complex organizational structures.
  6. You maintain deep familiarity with AI/LLM-powered tools and AI agents, and the ability to guide customers on how to deploy them effectively in safety and investigation workflows.
  7. You are exceptionally comfortable with ambiguity and repeatedly take initiative - you thrive when dropped into unfamiliar situations, learning quickly, and finding ways to deliver value.
  8. You are a great team player who deeply values the power of working together
  9. You are an excellent listener who sees every interaction as a chance to learn

Some nice-to-haves
  1. You have been a product owner or engineer within a Trust & Safety, Integrity, or Fraud organization
  2. Fluency in enterprise data architecture and/or AI safety
  3. The more comfortable you are with enterprise data architecture and artificial intelligence, the better

Why join us?
As a Forward Deployed Engineer (FDE) at Cinder, you'll be the bridge between our product and the people protecting the internet's most vulnerable users. Your work will directly shape how our platform is deployed and used, enabling customers to respond to evolving threats with speed and confidence.
You'll gain rare insight into, and actively contribute to, some of the most important internet safety issues globally. We're building and implementing the most advanced content safety system, and our customers and partner organizations are some of the world's largest enterprises. Expect a front row seat in tackling the hardest problems for some of the most sensitive, impactful issues.
