Summary:

Vighter is recruiting Medical Administration Specialists to provide healthcare support at Naval Medical Facilities in and around San Diego, CA. The Medical Administration Specialist โ€“ Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS) is responsible for the administration, coordination, maintenance, and operational support of imaging informatics systems utilized within healthcare facilities, military treatment facilities (MTFs), Veterans Affairs (VA) medical centers, federal healthcare environments, and civilian healthcare organizations.

The Medical Administration Specialist serves as the primary liaison between Radiology, Information Technology, Clinical Operations, Biomedical Engineering, and healthcare leadership to ensure the secure, efficient, and uninterrupted operation of PACS, Radiology Information Systems (RIS), Vendor Neutral Archives (VNA), and related imaging technologies. This position is responsible for supporting digital image acquisition, storage, retrieval, transmission, archiving, workflow optimization, user support, system troubleshooting, data integrity, regulatory compliance, cybersecurity initiatives, and interoperability among healthcare information systems.

Principle Accountabilities:

  • Administers and supports Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS) operations across assigned healthcare facilities and departments.
  • Monitors PACS performance to ensure continuous availability and functionality of imaging systems.
  • Coordinates system upgrades, software patches, enhancements, and maintenance activities with vendors and information technology personnel.
  • Performs routine monitoring of image transmission, storage, retrieval, and archival functions. Identifies performance issues and implements corrective actions to minimize workflow disruptions.
  • Maintains PACS operational documentation, procedures, and configuration records.
  • Monitors imaging workflows to ensure studies are accurately transmitted, processed and archived.
  • Coordinates workflow activities among Radiology, Cardiology, Nuclear Medicine, Dental Imaging, Orthopedics, and other imaging departments.
  • Identifies workflow bottlenecks and recommends process improvements.
  • Ensures imaging studies are routed to appropriate worklists and interpretation queues.
  • Assists with management of unread studies, delayed transmissions, and workflow exceptions.
  • Supports enterprise imaging initiatives and cross-departmental imaging integration efforts.
  • Provides technical support to radiologists, physicians, nurses, and administrative personnel.
  • Troubleshoots user-reported PACS issues and coordinates resolutions.
  • Assists new employees with system orientation and account setup.
  • Maintains user guides, training materials, and standard operating procedures.
  • Provides ongoing support and consultation regarding imaging system functionality.

  • Knowledge of regulations (HIPAA/Privacy Act) regarding the confidentiality of patient medical records and information as well as Personally Identifiable Information (PII).

  • Employees shall be technically proficient in the skills necessary to fulfill the job requirements, including ability to speak, understand, read and write English fluently.

Education:

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent required. Certification is required.


Qualifications:

  • Must have a minimum of one (1) year of experience in one or more of: PACS Administration, Radiology Information Systems, Imaging Informatics, Health Information Management, Healthcare Information Technology, Medical Administration or Diagnostic Imaging Operations.
  • Certified Imaging Informatics Professional (CIIP) certification is required and various levels from the PACS Administrators Registry and Certification Association (PARCA), such as CPAS, CDIP, or CPSA.
  • Must possess a current valid Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from one of the following approved organizations: American Heart Association (AHA) BLS for health care providers or AHA Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification,


Duty Hours / On-call Requirements:

  • The expected duty hours for this position are 8 hours per day and 5 days per week. However, this position supports 24/7 operations which may require work to be conducted at night and on weekends.

Travel:

  • As required to satisfy the contractual obligations. Commuting is non-compensatory. All official travel is government funded.

  • Must be able to pass a criminal background investigation.
