FACILITIES ASSISTANT

JOB TITLE: Facilities Assistant
REPORTS TO: Director of Campus Operations
HOURS/WEEK: up to 29 hours
FLSA DESIGNATION: Non-exempt
STAFF CATEGORY: Facilities Support Staff

SUMMARY OF POSITION: The person called to this position will support the mission of Illuminate Community Church by helping create a clean, safe, welcoming and well-prepared campus environment for worship services, ministry gatherings, staff work and special events. This role serves both behind the scenes and in visible guest-facing moments by preparing spaces, maintaining campus cleanliness, supporting event needs and completing assigned facilities tasks with excellence, humility and care.
RESPONSIBILITIES: Specific responsibilities include but are not limited to-
  • Prepare campus for routine and special events: prepare rooms and campus spaces for ministry gatherings, worship services, meetings and special events according to approved event plans and setup requests; set up, adjust and reset tables, chairs, equipment, signage and other event-related items as directed.
  • Clean and care for campus: clean and maintain assigned areas including worship areas, classrooms, restrooms, offices, common areas and exterior grounds; sweep, mop, vacuum, dust, wash surfaces, clean glass, stock supplies, remove trash and recycle items.
  • Monitor high-traffic spaces: help maintain restrooms, lobby areas, classrooms and shared spaces during assigned shifts or events so the campus remains inviting, orderly and free of unnecessary distractions.
  • Maintain campus infrastructure: perform basic facilities maintenance tasks as assigned, which may include touch-up painting, minor repairs, basic carpentry support, light plumbing assistance and other routine maintenance work.
  • Report facility needs: identify and communicate maintenance concerns, safety hazards, broken equipment, supply needs or setup questions to the Director of Campus Operations in a timely manner.
  • Support safety, security and stewardship: follow established safety procedures, campus opening and closing procedures and security expectations; help ensure doors, lights, equipment and rooms are properly secured according to assigned responsibilities.
  • Use church tools, equipment and supplies responsibly and according to safety expectations.
  • Work cooperatively with staff, ministry leaders, volunteers, vendors, guests and church members; represent Illuminate Community Church with professionalism, kindness and a service-minded attitude.
  • Complete other duties as assigned by the Director of Campus Operations.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Must be able to move freely throughout the building; ability to regularly lift 50 pounds. This position requires the ability to stand, walk, bend, climb, kneel, push, pull, carry and safely move tables, chairs, equipment, supplies and other facilities-related items as needed. This role may involve the use of cleaning products, ladders, carts, hand tools and other facilities equipment. Must be willing to follow all work safety procedures and use appropriate care when completing assigned tasks.
