Job description

Schedule/Hours: M - F 9:00 a.m. - 2:30 p.m. (25 hours per week)
This position is responsible for:
Under the general supervision of the Development Director, the Area Command Volunteer and Special Events Coordinator I assists in the development and maintenance of the Area Command's volunteer programs and the coordination of special events and programs hosted by The Salvation Army with the strategic focus and image of The Salvation Army. The incumbent identifies, recruits, trains, and coordinates all volunteers; develops and maintains relationships with community partners; works with staff in determining ways to utilize volunteers with some of their assignments and works closely with community service agencies for volunteer partner opportunities.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Develops and implements a recruiting strategy to attract volunteers for ongoing Area Command services and programs, Emergency Disaster Service programs, and seasonal/Christmas events to include Red Kettle Campaign and Angel Tree Programs.
  • Coordinates and conducts Safe From Harm training with all volunteers and employees.
  • Plans , designs and produces events while managing all project delivery elements within time limits.
  • Develops and implements a plan to build a pipeline of community volunteer partners, such as community service agencies, volunteer organizations, military, churches and corporations; maintains community partner relationships through follow-up, thank you's and regular communication.
  • Provides logistical support through supply purchase, set up and clean up.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
  • Ability to meet attendance requirements.
  • Ability to read, write and communicate the English language.
  • Ability to recruit individuals to perform special assignments as volunteers.
  • Ability to speak before small and large groups of people.
  • Ability to work under the pressure of deadlines and time constraints.
  • Ability to concentrate and pay close attention to detail for extended periods of time when reading and preparing reports.
  • Ability to apply discretion and independent judgement and exercise confidentiality.
  • Ability to plan, organize and prioritize work in order to accomplish work in compliance with quality standards and deadlines.
  • Ability to think, concentrate and learn.
  • Work is performed in a normal office environment where there are little or no physical discomforts associated with changes in weather or discomforts associated with noise, dust, dirt, and the like. During Christmas or special events, work may be performed in a warehouse setting with changes in climate, temperature and discomforts associated with noise, dust, dirt and the like.

Education and Experience
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college in related field,
Or
Four years' experience in coordinating special events and recruiting volunteers for large groups,
Or
Any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.

Valid State Driver's License
