Job description

Christian Health Care Center has been recognized as one of the best places to receive care in Washington state. Join a faith-based, nonprofit care team that leads in quality and service!
As a therapeutic recreation program coordinator at CHCC in Lynden, you’ll do work that brings joy and meaning to the lives of older adults. You’ll use your education and/or experience to facilitate enriching socialization experiences and therapeutic activities in a progressive, mission-driven long-term care center.
Work schedule:
•Primarily Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
•Occasional weekend coverage, scheduled in advance.
Responsibilities:
• Provide a therapeutic environment that maintains each person’s highest level of physical, social and psychological well-being.
• Develop, coordinate and implement programs and services for individuals with cognitive impairment.
• Lead therapeutic recreation programs and assist residents with participation in individual and group programs.
• Collect information to formulate a therapeutic recreation assessment and contribute to care plans; interview family, friends and community agency representatives as needed.
• Develop a written therapeutic recreation plan of care for each resident that identifies the challenges and goals to be accomplished.
• Complete a therapeutic recreation review at least quarterly. Document progress toward therapeutic recreation goals.
• Provide coverage for CHCC’s therapeutic recreation direction as needed.

Qualifications:

  • A bachelor's degree in therapeutic recreation, education or a related field is preferred.
  • Equivalent experience, including at least one year of designing and leading therapeutic recreation programs, will be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS) is preferred.
  • Experience working with older adults or individuals with dementia is preferred.


Skills:
• Have a calm, flexible demeanor and be able to improvise when working with older adults and disabled individuals.
• Leadership skills; able to work collaboratively as a team with others.
• Excellent interpersonal skills; must have patience, tact, cheerful disposition, enthusiasm and the willingness to handle residents based on their individual maturity level and work positively with family members and other CHCC staff members.
• Able to document information, follow procedures, exhibit solid communication skills, and have a pleasant, professional manner.
• Maintain an excellent attendance record.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Knowledge of community resources available to elderly and developmentally disabled populations.
Job Benefits:
• $24.50 to $32.97 per hour, DOE and based on certifications.
