What is a Christian copywriter?

A Christian copywriter is a professional writer who creates marketing, advertising, or informational content specifically for Christian organizations, ministries, or businesses. They use their understanding of Christian values, language, and culture to produce materials that resonate with faith-based audiences. Christian copywriters may work on church websites, fundraising campaigns, devotionals, or promotional materials for faith-based products and services. Their goal is to communicate messages that align with Christian beliefs while engaging and persuading readers.

How does a Christian copywriter balance faith-based messaging with marketing objectives?

A Christian Copywriter skillfully weaves biblical values and positive messaging into copy while also ensuring the content aligns with the client’s marketing strategy and goals. This often involves collaborating closely with ministry leaders, marketing teams, or non-profit stakeholders to understand both the spiritual mission and the brand’s unique voice. One common challenge is maintaining authenticity and scriptural accuracy while crafting compelling calls-to-action that resonate with both faith-based and broader audiences. Regular feedback and open communication with cross-functional teams help ensure the messaging is both effective and true to core Christian principles.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Christian copywriter, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Christian Copywriter, you need strong writing and editing skills, a solid understanding of Christian theology, and experience crafting faith-based content. Familiarity with content management systems (CMS), SEO tools, and digital marketing platforms is typically required. Creativity, empathy, and cultural sensitivity are important soft skills that help engage diverse audiences authentically. These abilities ensure the creation of compelling, mission-aligned content that resonates with readers and supports organizational goals.

What is the difference between Christian Copywriter vs Content Writer?

Work EnvironmentReligious organizations, faith-based brands, Christian mediaVarious industries including marketing, media, corporate websites
Employer & Industry UsageUsed by churches, Christian publishers, faith-based nonprofitsUsed across diverse sectors like tech, health, finance, and more

Christian Copywriters focus on creating content that aligns with Christian values and faith-based messaging, often working for religious organizations or faith-centered brands. Content Writers have a broader scope, producing content for various industries without necessarily incorporating religious themes. While both roles require strong writing skills, Christian Copywriters often need familiarity with Christian doctrine and terminology, making their role more specialized within faith-based marketing and communication.

Digital Designer

Southeast Christian Church

Louisville, KY • On-site

Full-time

Posted 29 days ago

Job description

The Digital Designer leads the digital-first design discipline at Southeast, every web page, app screen, email layout, digital ad, and motion-graphic asset that lives in pixels and in motion. This role exists because designing for digital surfaces is its own craft, distinct from print thinking adapted to a screen.

The Digital Designer extends Southeast’s brand system into digital patterns, partners with the Marketing Coordinator on email production, and contributes to the design team’s craft conversation alongside the Graphic Designer. UX awareness is baseline; aesthetic command is the bar.

Why Southeast? Southeast Christian Church is a dynamic, growing church where staff are encouraged to lead boldly, care deeply, and live authentically.

What you will be doing:

Web, App & Digital Surface Design

  • Design and iterate on Southeast’s web pages, microsites, landing pages, and app screens.
  • Apply UX/UI conventions; design for usability and accessibility, not just aesthetics.
  • Partner with web/IT teams on implementation; provide developer-ready specs and assets.
  • Test designs across devices and breakpoints; design responsive, mobile-first by default.

Email & Lifecycle Design

  • Design email templates, campaign emails, and lifecycle nurture flows for Southeast and the Senior Pastor platform.
  • Design for responsive rendering across email clients (Gmail, Outlook, Apple Mail, mobile).
  • Partner with the Marketing Coordinator on email production at scale; with the Strategic Copywriter on copy-design integration.
  • Apply email design best practices: above-the-fold clarity, scannable hierarchy, mobile-first.

Digital Ads, Motion & Social-Native Design

  • Design digital ads across Meta, Google, YouTube, and emerging platforms in formats and sizes the platforms reward.
  • Design motion graphics and animated assets for digital surfaces (lottie animations, short-form motion, ad variants).
  • Adapt static brand work to digital-native formats and platform-native conventions.
  • Partner with the Social Media Coordinator and Senior Pastor Social Coordinator on platform-native design needs.

Digital Brand System Extension

  • Extend Southeast’s brand system into digital-first patterns: web typography, interaction patterns, motion language, accessibility standards.
  • Document digital brand standards alongside the Design Lead; maintain Figma libraries and design tokens.
  • Partner with the Graphic Designer on brand consistency between print and digital surfaces.
  • Steward the digital design system as it evolves with platforms and best practices.

How You Operate

Self-Execution Mindset

You naturally take ownership and run with projects. You are comfortable making decisions and solving problems independently. You research, think critically, and present solutions, not questions, to leadership.

Adaptive & Resilient

You thrive in dynamic ministry environments where priorities shift. You see change as an opportunity for improvement and adapt quickly without losing momentum or requiring extensive recalibration.

Proactive Creator

You bring finished work and compelling ideas to the table. You are energized by developing new approaches and experimenting with creative solutions. You prefer taking initiative over waiting for direction.

Excellence-Driven

You have high standards for your work and are committed to continuous improvement. You take pride in delivering professional-quality content that reflects well on the ministry.

What we are looking for:

  • 3–5+ years digital design experience spanning web, app, email, digital ads, and motion.
  • Portfolio that demonstrates both UX awareness and aesthetic command on digital surfaces, not print work mocked up on a phone.
  • Mastery of Figma; working fluency in Adobe Creative Cloud and motion tools (After Effects, Lottie, or equivalent).
  • Working knowledge of how digital design becomes code (HTML/CSS literacy preferred, not required).
  • Working AI fluency; uses AI for image generation, motion concept acceleration, asset variants, and digital production speed.
  • Strong understanding of digital design conventions: mobile-first, accessibility (WCAG-aware), responsive behavior, performance trade-offs.
  • Heart for ministry and a commitment to using digital craft for Gospel impact.

This Role Is Not Right For You If You…

  • Prefer print or environmental work over digital surfaces.
  • Default to aesthetic over usability when designing for screens.
  • Resist the discipline that responsive, accessibility, and UX requires.
  • Avoid partnering with web/IT teams on implementation.
  • Find motion or interaction design beneath your craft.
  • Need to be the only one with taste in the room.

Our Requirements:

  • Engaged member of Southeast Christian Church, or willing to become one.
  • Models staff values: Honor, Care, Accountability, Grit, Authenticity, Humility, and Fun.
  • Lives out staff expectations of groups, inviting, serving, worship, and giving.
  • Agree with the *Statement of Faith, submit to the leadership established by the church, and lives out our church Mantras in tangible ways. https://www.southeastchristian.org/who-we-are#mantras

*Please read our Statement of Faith that is attached below. You will be asked if you agree with our Statement of Faith within the application process.
