How does a Christian Copywriter balance faith-based messaging with marketing objectives?

A Christian Copywriter skillfully weaves biblical values and positive messaging into copy while also ensuring the content aligns with the client’s marketing strategy and goals. This often involves collaborating closely with ministry leaders, marketing teams, or non-profit stakeholders to understand both the spiritual mission and the brand’s unique voice. One common challenge is maintaining authenticity and scriptural accuracy while crafting compelling calls-to-action that resonate with both faith-based and broader audiences. Regular feedback and open communication with cross-functional teams help ensure the messaging is both effective and true to core Christian principles.

Job description

Life.Church wants to make a lasting difference in your life, in our community, and in the world. Our mission is to lead people to become fully devoted followers of Christ. That's how we’re able to make a difference, and it's the driving force behind everything we do. The YouVersion Copywriter is primarily responsible for creating messaging that moves people to action and crafting campaigns that work equally well around the world. This role shapes creative assets by collaborating closely with strategists, designers, and filmmakers to bring ideas to life, exerting creative influence without owning the entire strategy. The YouVersion Copywriter utilizes their skillset to deliver outcomes that align with the direction of their team to further Life.Church’s mission and to reach people for Christ.

YouVersion was created by the local church in 2007 and remains a ministry of Life.Church today. At Life.Church, our mission is to lead people to become fully devoted followers of Christ. Our team is committed to reaching people worldwide through innovative technology. And YouVersion is one of the ways we get to do that. Life.Church is a multi-site Christian church meeting in the United States and globally at Life.Church Online.

We wholeheartedly believe a daily rhythm of seeking intimacy with God has the power to transform lives. That’s why YouVersion creates biblically-based experiences that encourage and challenge people to seek God. We hope everyone in our community is on an active journey to become who God made them to be, abiding in Him, and drawing closer every day.

  • Create multi-asset campaigns without sacrificing quality or creativity.
  • Write for a global audience that spans every stage of the faith journey.
  • Create copy designed to translate seamlessly across languages and cultures.
  • Thrive in two-week sprint cycles with quick turnarounds and evolving priorities.
  • Test, learn, and refine what’s working through performance data and user response.
  • Translate product features into clear, emotionally resonant benefits.
  • Brainstorm and build concepts with strategists, designers, and filmmakers.
  • Share ideas and feedback freely with fellow copywriters to elevate the team’s work.
  • Live and breathe YouVersion’s brand guidelines while finding new ways to express them.
Skills Needed to Succeed
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills to foster relationships and partnerships.
  • Effective at multi-tasking and time management to meet strict deadlines while remaining flexible and open to change.
  • Ability to self-motivate, make independent decisions, and solve problems.
  • Ability to manage conflict and differing opinions while maintaining composure.
  • Strong writing, editing, and proofing skills.
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • 3-5 years of copywriting experience with a portfolio that showcases brand and product marketing versatility.
Benefits We Offer
  • Paid parental leave, including maternity, paternity, and adoption leave.
  • Generous employer-paid leave for the use of vacation, sick time, and other qualifying reasons.
  • Innovative and comprehensive Medical, Dental, and Vision insurance that provides team members with useful resources and savings to navigate their holistic health.
  • Life insurance policy provided for all staff members at 2x annual salary at no cost. Additional life insurance coverage is available to purchase.

  • Comprehensive wellness and mental health benefits allow staff to proactively invest in their physical and emotional health.
  • Generous 401(k) retirement plan allowing a team member to have up to 12.5% (including employee contribution, employer match, and employer discretionary contribution) contributed into their account in their first year. It doesn’t stop there—the more years on staff, the greater the investment!
  • $160 annually in development dollars for team members to invest in their professional growth.
  • Casual dress and work environment.
  • And much more!
