Job description

Position Objective:

The Camp Caterer is responsible for providing excellent meal service to our guests at all off site camps by catering food and beverages from Conference Center (“CC”) in a welcoming, seamless and professional manner with the goal of maintaining MHA’s Standards of Excellence in an effort to bless and minister to guests in a manner consistent with MHA’s mission, vision and values.

General Qualification:

The Camp Caterer is a Ministerial position. Ministerial staff render their work, stewardship, relationships and behavior as evidence of being followers of Jesus Christ while embracing and affirming Mount Hermon Association, Inc.’s (“MHA”) mission, vision and beliefs.  They are responsible for defining, cultivating and leading MHA’s Christian community, conference programs, and retreats. 

Key Job Accountabilities:           

  • Prepare, transport, and serve meals from Conference Center (“CC”) kitchen to various locations at MHA.
  • Set-up and prepare the location for meal service.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, transportation vehicle, catering equipment and well-stocked kitchen.
  • Communicate with CC kitchen staff ensuring appropriate food quantities are provided and all special dietary needs are accommodated.
  • Communicate and partner with the host to ensure all dining and meal details, needs, concerns, and issues are addressed and resolved in a timely manner.
  • Clean and restock the area after each meal service.
  • Ensure guest satisfaction and provide a memorable visit through provision of exceptional guest service (friendly, safe, efficient, thorough, and ministry-minded).
  • Communicate with the Food Service Director and/or the Executive Chef about catering needs.
  • Facilitate and maintain clean and sanitary food service areas and equipment, communicating facility needs to the maintenance department.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities

Education/Certifications:
  • High school graduate.
  • At least one year of college due to onsite community living requirement.
  • Food Handler's Card (before arriving at camp).
Work Experience:
  • 1 year of food service experience (preferably catering), or other comparable experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to be self-motivated and work effectively and efficiently without direct supervision.
  • Ability to take directions and complete tasks as assigned.
  • Ability to effectively prioritize tasks and problem solve.
  • Ability to be flexible and adjust as needs and priorities change.
  • Able to work well with co-workers, supervisors, guests, and other MHA staff and departments.
  • Ability to maintain professionalism at all times.
  • Ability to be focused and on-task at all times.
  • Customer service oriented - passionate about serving MHA guests and staff.
  • Possess a positive and cheerful demeanor.
  • Ability to be reliable, dependable, and hardworking.
  • Highly detail oriented, yet able to keep the big picture in mind and respond accordingly.
Physical Demands:
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds.
  • Ability to walk and be on your feet for up to 8 hours a day.
  • Work primarily indoors with occasional shifts worked outside.
  • Ability to see, hear, speak and use hands to operate all kitchen equipment safely.
Additional Requirements/Skills:
  • Must be at least 18 years of age due to the requirement for onsite community living.
  • Will be assigned a secondary role(s).
  • Must have a valid driver's license.
  • Must agree to and comply with MHA's employee driving guidelines for MHA-owned vehicles and use of personal vehicles for business purposes.
  • Adherence to the basic principles as expressed in MHA's Mission, Vision, Values and Commitment statements.
  • Adherence to company dress code and professional standards for personal grooming and appearance.
  • Satisfactory completion of background investigation as well as ability to provide proof of eligibility to work in the United States.
