Job description

Heritage Christian Childcare Center  is currently seeking a caring, dependable, and motivated Assistant Teacher to join our St. Clarsville, OH team. We are looking for individuals who are passionate about early childhood education and committed to creating a safe, loving, and engaging environment for children.


As an Assistant Teacher, you will support Lead Teachers in daily classroom operations while helping children grow socially, emotionally, physically, and academically in a Christ-centered environment.

Physical Requirements

This position requires the ability to:

  • Sit, stand, bend, jump, reach, and actively engage with children throughout the day
  • Lift children and equipment up to 50 pounds
  • Crawl, stoop, balance, walk, run, and sit on the floor as needed
  • Participate in indoor and outdoor activities in varying weather conditions

Daily Care Responsibilities
  • Create a safe, loving, and welcoming environment for children
  • Attend promptly to children’s emotional, physical, and developmental needs
  • Feed children appropriate portion sizes while maintaining choking safety precautions and following parent instructions
  • Change diapers every two hours or more frequently as needed
  • Apply diaper cream when authorized through proper medication forms
  • Use the Procare App to:
    • Record meals, diapering, naps, and developmental milestones
    • Clock children in and out
    • Document daily activities
    • Upload at least one photo or video of each child daily for families
  • Comfort children experiencing emotional or self-regulation challenges
  • Report injuries immediately to the Lead Teacher or Administration and complete incident documentation promptly
  • Assist children during nap and rest times through comforting and soothing techniques
  • Provide individualized care based on each child’s needs
Educational & Behavior Management
  • Assist the Lead Teacher with implementing age-appropriate lesson plans aligned with SUTQ standards
  • Help create a classroom environment that encourages learning through play and exploration
  • Maintain engaging activities and sensory play opportunities throughout the day
  • Guide children in positive behavior, emotional regulation, sharing, and communication
  • Use positive redirection and encouragement to build confidence and self-esteem
  • Communicate clearly and patiently with children in a developmentally appropriate manner
Training & Compliance
  • Follow all DCY procedures and licensing guidelines regarding supervision, diapering, behavior management, sunscreen, and safety
  • Maintain knowledge of center policies and procedures
  • Provide care and teaching consistent with the Christian philosophy and goals of the center
  • Complete required state training hours
  • Participate in required trainings including:
    • First Aid & CPR
    • Communicable Disease Prevention
    • Child Abuse Recognition & Prevention
  • Participate in monthly emergency drills and staff meetings
  • Seek opportunities for professional growth and continued education
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe classroom environment
  • Report maintenance or safety concerns immediately
  • Assist Lead Teachers with parent communication and classroom documentation
  • Maintain classroom records including attendance, observations, medication forms, and incident reports
